Spiritual hibernation, or a coma?

I have not been practicing spiritual practice for a while now. My spirit is asleep. If I wait to long to awake it, it will slip into a coma. For now, it hibernates.

I have the capacity to shake the world by its foundations through my spiritual practice. However, time is my most valuable resource, and I am squandering it. I cannot let my spirit hibernate forever.

Through force of will can I awake inside. It is that will which I am searching for. You guys know a weakened @Xavier Graham , but next year I intend on fully awakening. My living environment will be different, and I will make sure I utilize that to the best of my ability. My lack of optimal environment is no excuse for wasting time, but nonetheless a better environment will do me good.

Mark my words RF. The version you know of me is a delinquent. I have reached high levels of spirituality before, well before this site was on my radar. I will change myself to the core once again. I am a sage in training.

Hibernating is important. Rest is important. Without it, we act poorly and often don't get done what we need to. Don't feel guilty about resting.

I doubt you're in a coma... otherwise you wouldn't be aware of this downtime.

Motivating oneself is good. But its better to start small and go stepwise. Identify two bad habitual behaviors you engage in and resolve to decrease their frequency over a period of 3-4 months. Note in a diary how many times you engage in them and see if the frequency is actually decreasing. If the frequency did decrease, give yourself a treat at the end of the period. Then repeat.

Similarly identify one or two good productive practices that you can fit in your current life and start engaging in them. Note how many times you are able to do them in a 3-4 month period. Once again give yourself a treat if you meet your targets.

Keep the targets challenging but achievable. Take a review or your efforts after the 3 month period is over and then set new targets based on how successful you were. Repeat.

Desist from two things:- being overoptimistic of your abilities and hiding failures through making excuses to self. If you fail, own it and resolve to do better. Second, do not compare your life with that of others in social networks like facebook etc. and become depressed. People rarely show their failures and unhappiness in such medium and create highly selective versions of themselves. They are just like fictional video game personas but, more insidiously, look like they are real.

All of these things require a bit of mental discipline. So uncluttering the mind and thought process will help. Training in a new skill is a good way to practice disciplined thinking. So that can be something you can do on the side.

It is OK to hibernate. It is winter.

Oh, one does not do that when one is hibernating.

Keep the targets challenging but achievable. Take a review or your efforts after the 3 month period is over and then set new targets based on how successful you were. Repeat.

What is "spiritual" mean?

I'm a fan of a "chop water, carry water" sort of spiritualism, as an aspect of a broader spiritual life. That way, I can always keep spiritualism alive.

It sounds like that's not the case for you?

We don't really have winter here.

Well, I don't feel you're missing much when it comes to winter...

I think it varies too much to say for sure what 'spiritual growth' means. Perhaps increased focus. Increased happiness. Ability to meditate. Maybe. These are just ideas. 'Self improvement' might fit here, too, but it would usually pertain to certain qualities. Its hard to say where one begins and the other begins, an I suspect it has more to do with the overall outlook of the person using the term.

It(either self improvement or spiritual growth) can be self absorbed. But it usually isn't meant to be.

Too much winter!!

I don't think I'd want to be in that sector of the US in winter. We get enough snow; I hear they get more.

I guess each prefers their own language and 'feel' for things. Some enjoy the term 'spiritual'. Others find it 'ew'.

I find it means so many things that it means nothing
