I debated with folks who do believe in prophets but not with fortune tellers.
....with folks who speak of spirituality but who cannot seem to describe it.
.... with atheists who have claimed to believe in ghosts.
.... the mixes can be quite surprising, or so I find........

OK....... Mix and Match! :)

.......... which do you believe in, and if so, why not the others?

These things are hardly related. Ghosts have nothing to do with prophets and prophets have nothing to do with demons. I know plenty of people who believe in ghosts but not prophets and prophets but not demons.

Spirits, ghosts, demons - astral beings or entities that can be positive or negative.

Fortune tellers, healers, mediums, seers, astrologers, numerologists, palmists, tarot readers, spiritualists - those who try to contact the astral plane or offer advice to people based on their own understandings.

Prophets - those who have achieved a very high realization in the inner planes and are charged with offering guidance to others.

Spirituality - the search to get better and better at living love, joy, peace and to contact the source of all either through an inner journey or through seeing the source in manifestation.

Next question;)

I used to read Tarot cards. It is almost magical how as you learn the meanings of the cards and positions they fall you can create a narrative about someone's life/fortune. It's not a conscious process. Consciously, you are just an observer. Watching, hearing the words come from you which were not consciously created by you.

I think folks wanted to believe. They came to you after all to hear their fortune. The cards refer to things that commonly happen to all people. It is likely that many of these events happened in every ones life.

Also the person you are doing the reading for provides clues, in their have mutter responses, facial expressions, etc...

All these things the subconscious mind picks up on. Allows it to create a narrative specific to the person you are reading for. It's like riding a bike. You don't have to consciously think about it. Consciously observing yourself giving voice to this narrative of someone else's life and you have no idea were it's all coming from.

But you see the amazed look on the person face. Hear the affirmation of how accurate the narrative was from the person you were doing the reading for. Feedback which confirms your supernatural prowess at telling fortunes.

I stopped because it became too real. I started as a hobby, never charged for a reading. Suddenly I was able to see into people's lives. Foretell the future. The supernatural had become a reality. It was all too much, too frightening.

It is easy for me to see how the supernatural becomes a reality in a fortune tellers life.

IMO, it depends on your poison of choice. The source is all the same, the subconscious mind. How it manifests is different for different people.

Ghosts, demons, angels, gods, alien abduction... It depends on what you think might be possible. The more you invest into it, the more you read, you learn, the more information you provide to your subconscious mind which allows it to create the experience which confirms what you think might be possible.

Next question coming up...... :)

So all spirituality is about searching for better, good, love, joy, peace and contact with ..... goodness....? Yes?

Or can some spirituality be searching for worse, bad, hate, despair, conflict and contact with..... badness?

No Yin & Yan?

Just askin'...... I know nuthin' :)

Wow!
Stunning!
It reads as if, as time went by you becoming the real tarot reader, and this realisation ... frightened you?
This sounds as if you do totally believe that some tarot readers are the absolutely genuine fortune tellers?

OK...... but could any of these entities or conditions be real to a person who absolutely does not believe in them?

Harry Edwards of Leatherhead, England was a Healer. Many who were taken to Harry for healing told him that they did not believe, did not have any faith, that their relatives had brought them to him. Harry always replied that it did not matter what they believed, because he was a healer, not a faith healer. His successes were amazing. He died in 77' of old age.

As a deist, you accept the possibility of a god, so why would spirits/ghosts be that far fetched?

For Me Spirits = Ghosts and are unknown right now/I lean to no
Demons = Classical understanding/No!
Prophets/Fortune Tellers/Healers/Mediums/Seers/Astrologers/Numerologists/Palmists/Tarot Readers/Spiritualists are all real types of people that believe what they do. Is what they do reliable for each I would have a different response.

Prophets they promote a new philosophy to others some becoming a religion and some dying out. I respect all prophets, it takes a lot to teach others, when persecuted for it. I hold them in the same status of Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, Mother Theresa and Nelson Mandela

Healers/They use the placebo effect to help people feel better/With some people this is a great help relieving stress which is a great killer of humans but in real cases of physical ailments they can hurt by keeping people from the proper medicine they need. Today's cleansing spa's and Crystal spa's and such are the new healer's

Real Mediums/Seers/Spiritualists/Are probably good with empathy and prediction. These are 2 traits all of us have. These three groups probably excel at it they have a High IQ in empathy and prediction. Depression is pretty common in people and if it helps people with stress and depression it is worthy. If they just take peoples money causing more problems then it is bad.

Astrologers/Numerologists/Palmists/Tarot Readers/ Fun games to pass the time. Any money spent here is just for entertainment purposes but if you like that type of entertainment go for it. I taught myself Tarot Reading and for a time had fun with it. I also read astrology periodically and match it to how my day actually went its fun.

Thanks for such a detailed reply. :)

On the side, does the word 'spiritual' have any special meaning for you?
I'm interested because some folks talk of their spiritual guidance, or essence, whilst not actually believing in spirits.

Yes. I think it invokes super-physical energies. I think there are also more advanced healers that involve super-physical entities doing the paranormal!

Thankyou for that.
I visited a Spiritual Chapel two weeks ago for healing. The healer's hands were more than warm, they were so hot, and the heat went right through me. The effect was something between amazing and shocking. Two days later a rather surprised consultant respiratory specialist looked at all the scans, xrays, bronchoscopies, blood tests, syringed fluid tests blah blah and told me that there was nothing found. Nothing = Good.... I expect they found some lungs etc :D
I had expected bad news, to be sure.
Amazing.

Spirits of many kinds, yes. Tarot and Runes, yes because I use and study both in my practice. Astrology, palmistry and numerology, I don’t believe in those as a science or concrete form of divination but as an art or spiritual practice it’s interesting. I also don’t literally believe in prophets but I can appreciate the fact many people resonate with them. As for any sort of fortune teller or spiritual seer/guide... I don’t know, some are rubbish but others are serious in their art and can actually offer advice. It’s hard to tell until you seek them out or you learn a bit of it yourself.

I guess I consider spiritual an effect on the emotional part of us, Love, Hate, Faith and such. Loss of loved ones tend to lead people to spiritualists for closure, this is not the logical side of the brain seeking closure. The spiritualist is reading their feelings and predicting there needs, they may actually believe they are hearing it from a voice but that voice is inside there head.

one wonders how the advancement of knowledge in certain areas has been hampered by the arrogance of science.
