In the meantime, the customers my company deliver products too, was looted, and burned down to the extend that we lost 50% of all our sales. I did not understand what you meant about leftist politicians running out of money and what happened, exactly, to cause these riots. I'm unfamiliar with socialism and the democratic process in SA, but you sound like you have much to worry about. I'm not going to ask you to explain the whole thing right now. Lets be honest here. This isn't a critique on socialism because South Africa isn't really socialist and capitalism wouldn't have helped at all either. Its no Soviet Russia at all. Too Capitalist.

The Apartheid government debased the majority of the people in the country by depriving them of wealth and education, which resulted in even worse events than are happening now. Then after Apartheid Jacob Zuma's corrupt government stole money from everybody and enriched themselves rather than the country.

So the first hit was institutional racism and the second hit was institutional corruption. The third hit was covid which increased unemployment. This downward spiral has been decades, if not a century, in the making.

Now the inevitable is happening. The majority are uneducated and unemployed. Its been ramping up for years.

The military and cops can only do so much otherwise things could get really really messy.

I suspect though that this was caused by political motivations on social media. Because Cyril has been working on ousting the corrupt and now that he has cracked down on the king of corruption, Zuma, all this is happening.

I hope that these events force the government to take the plight of our fellow South Africans seriously. And I hope that all the underlying racism, tribalism and xenophobia on all sides which has only festered, not disappeared, doesn't explode over.

Well at the moment it seems to be linked to Zuma's daughter because she was instigating on social media. I think it is more that she instigated it, someone put the idea in the head of the poor who saw a chance to have what they previously couldn't and started robbing.

Thing is that our country isn't like America. Most people do not care about being on the right or left and probably never heard of these things. They care more about living day by day than anything else. The strong leftist faction though is the EFF and they might see this as an opportunity to do something, and I think he would be militantly leftist.

South Africa didn't run out of money because the government is leftist. As far as I know we haven't actually run out of money. Money was stolen buy a corrupt cabinet. So the individuals in government have all the money in the world. And the poor have become even more poor.

While I am very sorry that this is happening. Decades of corruption by politically connected crony capitalists is the cause of this. Unfortunately a Indian businessman family is primarily responsible for the state South Africa is in. Yes, there are socialistic elements there, but then it begs the questions as to what kind of "socialism" are we talking about, and also is that label just a convenient name to try and gain support from the masses, such as was the tactic used by the three European fascist leaders in the mid-20th century.

We love our corporations here. There is no government capturing private businesses. The government has control over certain big institutions but we also have private versions of them. Lots of time people say a country is socialist just because it wants to provide the basic needs for its people, and these types of people really just don't like the poor and view them as sub human.

All governments have socialist elements, no matter how small. My country has loads of poor people who were deprived of even the opportunity to attain wealth, some regularly go to bed starving. People can't even survive on the government grants that they do receive because a months food costs 4 times as much, so I don't know how anybody will be satisfied with just receiving a government grant.

The term socialist only works as a thought stopping word with America, right wingers and right wing conservative Christians and really means nothing here in South Africa. The right wingers have either left the country or are a fringe group who are afraid to speak their mind in public because of their racist or underlying racist views towards black people. So obviously the right will not get much support here in South Africa.

So it seems like the looting and riots serve a particular strategy. Food, medical, petrol and other resources are deliberately being either robbed or destroyed which means that someone wants to cut of the supply chain of the country. Zuma (the ex president who is being imprisoned) and Malema (EFF leaders - ironically a socialist) had a meeting a while back, and since their families instigated this riot they are behind it. Malema has always wanted to seize land from those he hates (whites, Indians and farmers) and if the rioters invade private homes then that is definitely the plan here.
