Songs From Your Childhood

דניאל יוסף בן מאיר הירש
Cool thread idea :)

Here's the first song that came to mind reflecting on my childhood: Free to be You and Me.

There's a land that I see where the children are free
And I say it ain't far to this land from where we are
Take my hand, come with me, where the children are free
Come with me, take my hand, and we'll live
In a land where the river runs free
In a land through the green country
In a land to a shining sea
And you and me are free to be you and me
I see a land bright and clear, and the time's comin' near
When we'll live in this land, you and me, hand in hand
Take my hand, come along, lend your voice to my song
Come along, take my hand, sing a song
For a land where the river runs free
For a land through the green country
For a land to a shining sea
For a land where the horses run free
And you and me are free to be you and me
Every boy in this land grows to be his own man
In this land, every girl grows to be her own woman
Take my hand, come with me where the children are free
Come with me, take my hand, and we'll run
To a land where the river runs free
To a land through the green country
To a land to a shining sea
To a land where the horses run free
To a land where the children are free
And you and me are free to be
And you and me are free to be
And you and me are free to be you and me

@Shadow Wolf and I seem to have had similar songs that we grew up listening to. :D I'll add some of my favorites when I was a kid to the heap!

Warning: bad language.

You know... In retrospect, I tended to like music that veered towards political and sociological statements when I was a kid. Huh.

In my early teens, my favorite singer was Bobby Darin, and I remember this song so well even though this recording was done later [1970]:

I doubt hardly any of you kids were around to enjoy music from the 1980s. As a courtship ritual call to my then wife to be, I serenaded her with the song You're the Inspiration as originally performed by the band Chicago. They come from my hometown of Chicago and as such are appropriately named.

What songs did you guys serenade to your would-be Mrs.?

When I first met my mother (in my late forties), she told me that the last time we saw each other, when I had just turned 7, I sang "The Yellow Rose of Texas" to her. No idea why, but oddly I still remember the song. I think I was mimicking a version by Roy Rogers.

Otherwise, in my childhood, I really only cared about Beethoven.
