So. Was Junia a man or woman in the Bible?

Could be as simple as a gender neutral name that just confused some translators. Junia, Junias, Julia, Julias I can see how some mixup could occur.

Names like Kim, Bobby, etc. I even know a girl who goes by Ronnie (she shortened it from Veronica).

This is just a real world example. I haven't investigated it much though. Just the my first thought on the matter.

Wonder how common that was back in ancient times for males to have feminine names and vice versa?

I'm not sure if it was really that big of an issue or not with Judaism, but Christianity seems to revolve around specifics and accuracy regarding terminology to which, for all practical intents and purposes, comes across as critical. Many of the debates and arguments come from quoting specifics , especially in apologetics which seems to be set up to address these types of things. Especially with gender.

I find it difficult to understand why anyone would believe that Junia was other than a female Apostle.
In the same way it is now established that Mary Magdalene is the Apostle to the Apostles.
You would have to be a complete misogynist to think otherwise.

I don't have any idea honestly. If I had to guess I would say not much different than today. Which means it was probably rare back then as well. I've known 1 guy named Kim in my life, he was a pilot for Delta airlines. I've know a girl named Bobbie my whole life, we've even dated. And then Ronnie (Veronica) a girl of course.
