That is the primary reason God sent Prophets and revealed a light to hold on to. Yes it's possible to be guided in theory without Prophets, divine books or God's compassion sending us reminders, but it's so highly improbably, and the sinners like me, no chance without Prophethood reminding in the darkest of all places, and the stars of guidance that remain a way even in the darkest of all nights.
