particular human failing, when everyone is at risk.
Ok that is a fair statement. Yes, everyone is. Yes he is appealing to the lower classes with his bias. He's also wrong about stupid people.

By the way I was not intending to hurt your feelings if I did. It surprises me that this jumps out at you as particularly atrocious. There is some irony in it, because actually stupid people don't change the facts, because they cannot. Smart people can, but he's saying that they are stupid for doing it. Overall isn't he criticizing politicians in general?

I'd describe the quote as "less than pithy".
There is some irony in it, because actually stupid people don't change the facts, because they cannot. Smart people can, but he's saying that they are stupid for doing it. Overall isn't he criticizing politicians in general?
