First of all I think it's sad that he/she died... but also, I can't help to wonder how insanely naive some people are when it comes to these conspiracies as I assume it most likely relate to. Do people honestly think that all of the worlds leaders and science community decide to play a prank on the rest of us? And spend billions of dollars doing it, not alone the loss in popularity by these officials, but think about the amount of people that must be involved in it, all the people testing for the virus and not a single one with credentials go out and say that it's just a lie?

To me reading stuff like this, and the stories with people not caring and others believing that they are protected by God, so they still go to church and so forth... It's off the chart on the scale of stupidity.

It's completely mind blowing the amount of stupidity in the world.

I'm not so concerned with people who die by their own hand
as patient X did. But I am concerned for others they might've
    infected.
On the plus side, I think it's highly likely that this story will
result in some changes in attitudes, & saving of other lives.

I would be surprised to be honest... The whole world is talking nonstop about this virus and still that is not enough for people to realize that it is real?

I bet you that there are people out there, that think the story is either just made up to scare people or that think the patient was murdered to further enhance the conspiracy.

But when a a fellow conspiracy theorist dies of the hoax,
this will resonate with their fellows.

No, it won't. Not with all of them. I have been on a debunking site and the stupidity and emotional investment some people make in a conspiracy makes them immune to facts. Study the psychology of conspiracies and you will learn that.

Take 2: Emotional investment in being right, personality, intelligence and the Dunning-Kruger effect are some of the factors.

I think most will realize the virus is real enough and it is dangerous to certain people who happened to be vulnerable.

The thing is, it's obviously not dangerous to most people. Just the moderate few that are affected and don't respond well. Most people will get through it just fine.

People react differently to the unknown and uncertainty as to whether the virus will affect them. Someone who ends up acting like it's the bubonic plague of the middle ages, while others will just realize it's an aspect of nature in face of something that is going to be around a long long time if not permanently and accept things like mortality and risk in face of something that has no cure.

That's a classic example of the problem. Because it's a tiny step away from "I don't care if I get it and I'll carry on as usual if I do. If someone else is worried, it's their problem. And I don't believe in medical science and all the positive treatment news is just fake"

Things becoming personal can shake things up. And, indeed, in some places increases in mask and distance compliance has been attributed to more people now knowing someone who has or has had it. Sure, some will double down, that is psychology. But so is it that things becomimg personal can shake up worldviews.

Yeah, the problem personally for me, is that I am in the high risk category and so I rely in part on other humans to in part protect me.

I never said that it would be a solution for all.
Only that it could improve things.
Did your study lead you to believe that if improvement
applies "not all of them" then it has no positive effect?

I'm a fan of incrementalism rather than seeking perfection.

    Those are indeed all things.
Nonetheless, I've been using that article to influence others.
    It's worth trying.
Perhaps I just have more optimism & lower expectations than doth thou?

The people I know who find the plague to be either a hoax or overblown
are those who haven't seen much illness or death in their immediate
circle. It's a shame that they'll need to lose family & friends to be convinced.

It reminds me of the Moon landing hoax theory. People who believe that
don't work in aerospace or even know people who do. So it's not real to
them. If one doesn't know anyone sick with C19, then it's easy to believe
    the deniers on the internet.

Yeah, I know. I am somewhat "jadded" because I just to be a profesional soldier and have learned to see problems in any plan. It biases me to be negative. Further my farther worked with work place security and he always influenced me with examples of stupid.

As a design engineer, I strived to make things foolproof & damn fool
proof. (There's a difference.) I never eliminated fools or their failures.
I just made for more good results, & fewer bad ones.
IOW, it's worth improving things....don't demand perfection.

No cure as of yet. No one has said there will never be a cure. And already we're getting better at treating it. Rushing out as if viral russian roulette woth covid as the new permanent norm has no basis in evidence. By the end of the year we'll probably even have a bettwr understanding of the serious, total body wrecking illness this can cause.
This isn't going to be around forever. This isn't a new normal. We just need to hang in there a little longer. But it .ight be past that point in America. Too many thought as you, and unlike so many other countries we arent yet moving past this. Its basically the same foriegn policy that America loves, which is jyst keep doing the wrong thing, no matter how bad or hkw many times it ****s up, until things just happen to turn out right.
