(Bloomberg) -- A caravan of some 6,000 migrants continued its trek to the southern border of the U.S. after clashes with military and police on Sunday in Guatemala. Migrants were greeted with sticks and tear gas in Chiquimula, Guatemala, as they tried to pass through a barrier. Their goal is to make it to the U.S. where many believe the administration of President-elect Joe Biden will soften its...

Thousands of Migrants Head for U.S. After Clash in Guatemala

...Okay. So, how is this going to work out? What's Joe Biden going to do for these people, and why do these Latin American countries keep getting away with rotten social and economic management, while at the same time, are so racist, and stupid, they block US citizens from buying property there.

...These countries must be run be blithering idiots.

The conditions in the Northern Triangle Countries are atrocious, and one big one is a long-lasting drought. The Biden administration's best bet, imo, is to reverse the Trump administration's policy that eliminated aid to these countries, which was about as idiotic as idiotic could ever get. Obviously, the aid would need to be conditional and heavily monitored so as to make sure it gets into the hands of the right people.

To put it another way, we can help them there or we help them here, and doing neither would create some more serious problems for them and us.

there should be continued pressure, IMO, to allow US companies and people to be able to buy property there.

If we build Walmarts and McDonald's, and other things, then they there will be more jobs.

When you are born you get one chance on this earth.
Some of us are born in developed and humane countries; others are not so lucky.
You would be failing in your duty if you did not do the best for you and your family; if that means leaving your existing country to try for a better life, so be it.

To demonize these people is not helpful, as @metis said the best answer is to support these countries with targeted aid to build their economy and infrastructure. Then with luck they will not need/want to migrate.

Metis, why hand them money, when we could instead extend our economy and wealth through the private sector, by actually creating jobs.

...Also, they're being racist by not allowing US citizens to buy property there.

That's a strawman argument. Nobody has said that, but the usual talking points just carry on, I see. Why not explore new horizons with me, Altfish? Why not try something new?

You know, they just changed the zoning rules in California, now everyone is building homes in their backyards, and renting them out.

...This is going to cause a traffic and over population disaster, as well as a massive poverty issue, because you can only squeeze so much employment in an area.

...These people are just going to come to my neighborhood, and become part of the larger problem, so surely you can see how unfair it is, that US citizens are prevented from helping the economies these people come from by not being allowed to go there, and open businesses and build expensive homes there.

What's fair is fair. o_O

You know how we have Chinatown, and Koreatown, and all these other ethnic neighborhoods? Yeah, they don't allow that in Latin America because they're racists!

Should probably change migrants to Democrat voters in your post title.:D
If it weren't for Rush and the rest of the gossip queens you'd never know that talking point.
It does make you wonder why Republicans don't give a damn to reach out to these people for votes. That would offend the conservative base.
Come on esmith, we know what you really think. You only call them Democrats because you think they're only coming to America for a "free ride."
Another pre-programmed talking point by those on the right.

another post from our resident comic. How about answering my question in North American Politics-Who Should Lead post#53, or is it you can't stand the truth.

A history of US-backed coups hasn't helped. Guatemala is the origin of the word "banana republic".

You clearly have no idea what a strawman argument is, because that wasn't it.

It's not racist, it's nationalist and a result of past banana republics where the countries were owned and controlled by foreigners.

If you want to call it nationalist, then that's fine with me. In any case, they're only hurting themselves and their own economy. And starving their own population to the breaking point, to where they're leaving in massive caravans...

...It's stupid to hold on to such nationalism, when there's nothing "good" in it to hold onto. It's false pride.
