Sister Beck's Talk

I must say something here.

If there is corruption, it is with those members who have yet to be discovered and corrected. In our area, as far as the leadership is concerned, there is no corruption beyond human weaknesses. And the leadership concerning the 1st Presidency, apostles, and other GA's, I absolutely don't accept the concept of corruption. There will always be the exceptions, and there have been in history, but these are rare, and are because we are human and we have weaknesses. I completely trust the leadership in this church in all matters of doctrine.

For me, staying away from church is one step towards losing my covenants. I believe the Lord wants me in church. I believe that there is always something I need to learn there, plus I need the support of the other members. My children need to know that every Sunday they can count on their parents being in church. If I ever come away dispirited, then I need to examine myself in how I can come better prepared next time. I'm talking about myself here. I don't know you at all. But your words are concerning.
I can't afford that one step. I don't have the confidence in myself to do it alone. I am not strong enough.

 

That's right.

The corrupt are the ones like Katzpur, Becky, and myself.

 

And you might want to consider President Uctdorf's talk from the priesthood session last night.

No - you did not just give your opinion of Beck's talk - you called others corrupt. A person not attending church with his wife is in no position to be judging other members of the church.

 

Okay, fair enough, I'll transfer those last posts to my own thread.

 

That has nothing to do with my previous post.

Your personal experiences are just that - personal experiences. My personal experience is that I've NEVER heard people complain or harass others at church because a wife was not working outside the home.

Now address my post or go away like you said you would.

 

To nutshell, and others who may disagree with me and FFH and who say that i am judging them.

I have no problem being judged with the same judgements i apparently judge other people with. because i know what my life is like and where i am headed in my life.

I have no problem standing before God and answering the judgements. That is why we are told not to judge others, is because we are then judged with the same judgement.

 

just because a person is not attending church due to needing to take care of thier famly does not mean they do not follow all of the commandments as much as they are able.

While i do not agree with FFH on one of his comments that he has a "strong enough testimony that he can take a break"(because yes, that is a very dangerous place to be and we all need the spiritual edification that we all get from church). I understand his point of view anyways, because my mother was physically unable to go to church, and while she desired to go above everything else, her health did not permit it. this had no bearing on her testimony or spirituality. she played hymns in her home almost 24/7 and she awlays made sure we had scripture study as far as was possible. and we always had family prayer.

there are definitely circumstances that could prevent people from going to church no matter how hard they try or how badly they want to go.

Hey, I just thought I'd resurrect this old, old thread in case any of you Latter-day Saints were interested in hearing my take on Sister Beck's conference talk to day.

I thought it was wonderful!

 

I actually was curious....

 

Yeah, when they announced that she was going to be the next speaker, I almost got up and left the room. Then I thought, what the heck... I'll stay until she says something that offends me. And so I sat there and listened and listened and listened, and nothing! I thought it was really good. Maybe she actually stopped to consider how she came across last time and decided to take a different approach!

 

I wasn't able to listen to Saturday's sessions. I'll put them on my iPod and listen to them tomorrow. Glad to know she didn't offend you, Katz!

 

I actually wondered what you would do... I actually did imagine you walking up and not even listening to her and I hoped you wouldn't. I'm glad to hear you didn't.

I don't believe she ever apologized or backpedaled from her talk, in-fact her talk on mothers who know was a relief society lesson in our ward. I also don't think she would ever retract what she said because it was approved by the first presidency and in accordance with other talks given by other general authorities in the past. but anyways, I was actually impressed to hear that you listened to her talk and are not holding a grudge any longer against one of the best relief society presidents of this generation.

 

I know she never apologized or backpedaled, but she did take a different approach and it was more effective, in my opinion. I just saw her whole perspective as being more positive, and that's what people need. They don't need a guilt trip. That's why I liked President Uchtdorf's talk. (Well, that and the fact that it was President Uchtdorf. )
