Anyone else like to forage for Mushrooms? It is currently rolling into Chanterelle and Morel season here in the PNW of the US. With the return of the rains, decomposition is starting, and the fungi are starting to make their initial appearances.

I haven't been out yet this year, I am currently scoping out places to forage.

I love mushrooms, but I'm afraid I'll either poison myself or trip.

Yes, a group of us will be going hunting on Wednesday morning. Gerolles (chanterelles), cepes, oyster, and common white (known as champignons de Paris here) are in season. And i expect a basket of chestnuts too

That's actually pretty cool. You have to link up with a mycological society/club here for that.

Don't pick the LBMs (little brown mushrooms), and you wont trip. Plus, there are lots of good field guides for foraging.

Up to the 80s there were a lot of deaths associated with poison mushrooms, the government decided to do something about it.

We get mostly just Morels here. Worst part is getting covered in ticks.

You're welcome to visit. I wanted to visit some RFers down in Cali when visiting but Covid made us think twice. Will be harder to have an outside picnic in rainy season but we will make due. xD

My best friend is a huge enthusiast. And good enough at predicting where to look that she comes home with bounties that let me laugh at the lesser harvests of others.
I'm not a fan of mushrooms (mostly a texture thing), but I do like going outdoors, especially to some of the more isolated places my friend goes.

The French do a lot of weird eating rituals, but they seem to run a very good state.

The food is damn good for sure despite their oddities. I have made more friends here by joining in faire chabrot than anything else.

If you don't like the texture of mushrooms how about a mushroom soup. Good wild mushrooms, (i love cepes) in wherever recipe you like. Pour the lot in a blender and blitz it until smooth

Never thought of that. Typically here they are served in pasta (slimey) or fried (like chewing on a piece of fat).

That sounds delicious. As long as it doesn't feel like I'm gagging on a piece of blubber in my mouth.
