Zoo operator Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage ( aka Joseph Allen Schreibvogel, Aaron Alex, Cody Ryan, Joe Exotic, the Tiger King ) might have been wrongfully imprisoned by being framed in a murder for hire plot targeting animal rights activist Carole Baskin whose millionaire husband had "mysteriously" disappeared.

Right now, the prison population is in grave danger of being infested with Covid, this could be more dangerous for the Tiger King's well being than him being around caged tigers. There's an online petition I've signed in order to express our support for freeing Joe Exotic. Change.org

Having not heard of this, I read the Wiki summary. It doesn't seem clear cut at all. The animals she takes in could not be returned to the wild; that presumably is why she takes them.
