Separation of families at the border

There is a lot of ginned up angst about adults and children being separated at the border. Most of these occur with those who have crossed the border illegally to enter the US.

There are firm legal reasons why this happens, but these are not important to the point of this post.

Many thousands of families are separated every day in the US, and no one gives it a thought.

Virtually every time someone is placed in jail, they are separated from their family. In many cases, where their is a single parent household, that parent is denied to their children. Many times these parents stay in jail till their trial, where they are found innocent

Tough, just part of the system, right ? Who cares ?

Once again, illegal aliens and their plight for committing a crime is paramount, and American citizens are ignored.

Who is responsible for these families ( if they truly are related ) being separated ?

The illegal aliens who dragged them thousands of miles solely to break American law.

The democrats decry the conditions at the border, yet they encourage and empower the masses coming here by making no effort to address the extremely serious flaws in the immigration system. They then wring their hands because their lack of action has created the swamping of detention facilities, and subsequent poor conditions, for political purposes.

The next time you become apoplectic about so called family separation, think about the many single mothers and fathers sitting in jail for misdemeanors, and ask yourself why illegal aliens are more important to you, than they.

What would Jesus do?

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
They aren't illegal aliens, they are asylum seekers and refugees who have committed no crime. ... . .

If they jump the wall in direct defiance then they are illegal. They can legally apply for asylum in the US while staying in Mexico now .

I wish the Federal government would actually do something about this but there seems to be no willingness to fix the immigration system. I suppose it has too much value as a political talking point.

I was a boat refugee from communist Vietnam. Our crime was supporting pro democratic South Vietnam before the end of the Vietnam war. We fled by boat only to be intercepted by a foreign country. Technically, we were trespassing, and as a result, we were held at an intern camp for months. I was only 5 at the time.

Do you believe what my family and I did was "illegal" and should have been separated from my parents? The alternative was to stay in Vietnam and face persecution in a communist country.

It's not either/or. Nice try, though. And funnily enough both issues are caused by the same side. I'm going to have to agree with Jesus on this one. Maybe you'll find him one day. :)

First off prisoners do not lose there rights as parents. They may have problems with the other parent that can have there rights taken away or the other parent does not allow communication with children. They can sue to have there communication allowed but must pay out of pocket for courts and lawyer costs.

Parental Rights of a Father in Jail

Second rarely do both parents go to jail. This means one parent is able to still take care of the kids. If both parents go to jail the government will try to send kids to family or at worse foster care or children's homes. This is not done with the immigrant children they are just put in a slightly better jail.

Lastly are the conditions both the parents and the children are kept in. When US prisons become over populated, they either expand them or shorten sentences to let out some of lesser criminals. This has been done for years and in just about every state. The prisoners would never be kept in the same conditions as the immigrants are.

I have no issue with criminal prosecution and imprisonment however we need to have standards both on time(not indefinitely) and quality of confinement.

Justice, compassion and humanity are limited resources?
Have you ever bought buildings, food, beds, clothing, medicine, etc, etc.
Such things require money. And unless the oft vaunted exemplar, Jesus,
delivers unto us handouts from Dad, taxpayers foot the bill.

Is a hungry person who breaks the law to eat commiting a crime?

Is a homeless person committing a crime by staying in an unrented house without permission?
