I can only assume you’re targeting atheists, nonbelievers. As an atheist I couldn’t agree more, science is a false god. Furthermore, I’ve read an uncountable amount of books & watched hundreds of religious/atheist debates & lectures in the last 2 years since I outed myself as atheist, and have NEVER heard any atheist say this. So I would be skeptical of anyone like a theist saying this. Like maybe that person has a bias or agenda

Not exactly. The Pharisees took issue with Jesus and his disciples because they didn't wash their hands up to the elbow. They, the Pharisees, had taken the hygienic laws of Moses and exaggerated them in a sort of religious overzealous fervor. (Mark 7:2-5; Matthew 15:2)

So all things, A statue? Violent warlord? A beard or cloud in the sky, a wolf, bear etc, a tree in the forest, a good sex partner etc, etc, etc

There is no (cannot be) an agreed definition of god because god is defined by each individual god (or gods) believer and is different for each person

Even down thru the Dark Ages with plagues and such , the Jews fared better than the rest of the population because of their purification rituals.. Today, surgeons wash up to the elbows.

So what if they do? Many people who say their is a god despite being unable to prove it worship their own image of that god. Many people (regardless of whether they believe in gods or not) worship specific other people. Human beings are flawed animals.

What point are you actually trying to make with this observation?

Not necessarily. Anything or anyone can be a god so long as someone makes them a god. That isn't the same as everything being a god. All of those things you mention could be gods and most of them probably are somewhere.

No, because you can look at any god in any form that has ever existed and determine whether it is a god or not by simply asking is it attributed might by someone, venerated by someone, or worshiped by someone? That is all that a god is. Whether it's supernatural, natural, mythical, historical, human or inanimate object, etc.

So you look at the four or five definitions in the dictionary and how do they hold up to this principle?

gods 1. (in Christianity and other monotheistic religions) the creator and ruler of the universe and source of all moral authority; the supreme being.

    2. (in certain other religions) a superhuman being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human fortunes; a deity. "a moon god" synonyms: deity, goddess, divine being, celestial being, supreme being, divinity, immortal; More an image, idol, animal, or other object worshiped as divine or symbolizing a god. synonyms: idol, graven image, icon, golden calf, totem, talisman, fetish, mascot, juju "wooden gods" used as a conventional personification of fate. "he dialed the number and, the gods relenting, got through at once"

    3. an adored, admired, or influential person. "he has little time for the fashion victims for whom he is a god" a thing accorded the supreme importance appropriate to a god. "don't make money your god"

    4. INFORMAL the gallery in a theater.

They all involve worship 1, 2 or veneration 1, 2, 3, 4 or someone attributing might to something or someone that is greater in might then they are. 1, 2, 3, 4.

Simple as that. Any god(s) or goddesses that have ever existed had only this to make them gods.

I agree, but the dispute with Jesus and the Pharisees didn't involve Jesus and his disciples not washing their hands before eating, it involved the Pharisees unreasonable insistence that they (Jesus and disciples) might as well not have washed their hands because they hadn't washed them up to the elbows. The Pharisees had taken the law and exaggerated it and then judged other people from their exaggerated perspective.

It's like, if I told you you were not a safe driver because you drive too fast even though you were actually driving under the speed limit.

I really do not think it reasonable to say that the "religion
taught" hand washing etc. A lot of what goes into the
book(s) is in no way even presented as "god's word",
but rather, it is a people's folk wisdom, anecdotes and history.

To even remotely suggest that "god" passed the word on
cleanliness etc- and someone dutifully wrote it down to
put in the bible so the religion can teach it, well, that is
just not an idea to garner any respect and credibility.

    Is science a doer?

Actually, understanding such as yours, exhibited by many other posters, validate the OP.

Nah. It only shows that anyone looking for a semantic
"gotcha" can concoct one. It is a shabby practice unworthy
    of almost anyone.

Really? Can you take a moment and prove what’s so stagnating about these?

"For “whoever would love life and see good days must guard his tongue from bad and his lips from speaking deception. Let him turn away from what is bad and do what is good; let him seek peace and pursue it." -1 Peter 3:11

“But now you must put them all away from you: wrath, anger, badness, abusive speech, and obscene talk out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another. Accordingly, as God’s chosen ones, holy and loved, clothe yourselves with the tender affections of compassion, kindness, humility, mildness, and patience. Continue putting up with one another and forgiving one another freely even if anyone has a cause for complaint against another. Just as Jehovah freely forgave you, you must also do the same. But besides all these things, clothe yourselves with love, for it is a perfect bond of union.” - Colossians 3:8,9, 12-14.

“Never be anxious about the next day, for the next day will have its own anxieties. Each day has enough of its own troubles.” -Matthew 6:34

““You heard that it was said: ‘You must love your neighbor and hate your enemy. However, I say to you: Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those who persecute you, so that you may prove yourselves sons of your Father who is in the heavens, since he makes his sun rise on both the wicked and the good and makes it rain on both the righteous and the unrighteous. For if you love those loving you, what reward do you have?" (Matthew 5:43-46)

“Even a child is known by his actions, whether his behavior is pure and right.” -Proverbs 20:11

Science is essentially a "vehicle", much like an automobile is, so it's a matter of whether an individual uses that vehicle for purposes of good or for evil, and there will always be some who do the latter.

Many who say there is no God because science can't prove it actually worship science.

What a ridiculous claim. Science is a merely a tool which has proven itself to be by far the most accurate means we have of determining how the physical world works. It's the reason you are able to read at night by electric light, it's reason why you can keep food cold so that it won't spoil, it's the means by which you're able to communicate over the Internet.

The fact that you and your religion feel threatened by science says far less about science and those who accept it and far more about the flaws of your faith.

Well you're right that anyone who would be silly enough to claim that science is a god would be making a false statement.

No, science does NOT say that unicorns do NOT exist. It simply indicates that thus far there is no verifiable evidence that unicorns exist. You REALLY don't comprehend how science works, do you?

If so , fine, but that is custom or folk wisdom.

Do you have any data on this improved survival thing?

"Science says they do not exist" is so freakin' typical of most
    if not all our forum-theists.

They JUST SAY THINGS, MAKE THINGS UP!

Who knows why. Does goddism promote that? I
kibda think so, for lo, their religions are wholly without
demonsteable basis beyond what people say.
Most if not all of which is, yes, demontrably just
    MADE UP.

I believe a good case can be made for the
    statement that

    Theism teaches people to lie.
