Do you believe there is a correlation between science and religion or not?

I believe science and religion can be compatible as in my belief system. Religion gets into things that are beyond science’s ability to know at this time.

But good religion should not be in conflict with science.

Correlation? Mostly a negative one: the more scientific one is, the less religious one is likely to be and vice versa.

The methods of the two subjects are very different: science requires testable hypotheses and that we try to prove any idea *wrong*.

Religion relies on faith and assumes certain ideas to be true without question.

Here you go again, displaying your narrow minded mythical and religious ignorance regarding the cosmological contents in the religious Stories of Creation.

What on Earth are you really doing in the Religious Forums? Find a scientific forum where you can worship the numerous ad hoc assumptions in cosmological science together with the other believers.

    Yes.

Traditional religion doesn't contradict empirical natural science, nor specifically affirm a particular religion due to it's logical limitations.

But Scientism is itself a religion, philosophy, ideology and Totalitarian political system.

    There is no correlation,

One is faith based, is not welcoming of new ideas and is not falsifiable.

    The other is science

Yes! But we have to differ between the historic interpretation of religion and its dogmas and the factural cosmological contents in the numerous cultural Stories of Creation.

Both are, you don't know what faith is.

And a good science should not be in conflict with religion as in their Stories of Creation.

I'm interested in the beliefs people have. I lean towards science in my own thoughts, but am curious concerning the origins and development of other systems of thought. If any of your ideas had any semblance of truth to them, I would find them fascinating. As it is, I see you more as a case study.

    Polymath257 replied:
Polymath257, you answered quite out of topic, The question was if there is a correlation between science and religion, suggesting the religion eventually to hold scientific elements or not.

Your general biased approach towards religion got the better of you and you immediately got into the dogmatic and dualistic part of the religion and of course praising the scientific approach at the same time.

Of course you are somewhat excused in this. Primary because you haven´t studied the myths and its cosmological contents (and you willfully don´t wish to know either when told) and secondly because you are a collective victim amongst millions individuals in the Vestern countries, who are misled and misguided by the dogmatic patriarchal heritage in the Abrahamic Religions.

Once upon a time the Jewish people got their religion from the Sumerian culture, but they soon forgot the cosmological wisdom and symbols and then they discarded all the divine symbols of the forces of creation, especially the female ones, and left us just the one and invisible god - and NO cosmological wisdom at all.

This loss of wisdom still haunts you and millions of persons in the Vestern countries - and unfortunatly you and the rest of the misled individuals judges the once genuine religious wisdom of cosmos as just mumbo jumbo.

Gorlia Jefferson asked for scientific correlations and NOT for differences in beliefs. So go searching for these instead of posting your biased and religious frustrated replies and your highly overrated thoughts and beliefs of science.

On the contract, it seems that you dont know what science is, here, let me help you

Science : the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.

Faith : strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.

The word faith has more than one meaning. If you are going to claim science is faith based then you need to say in what sense and justify your claim.

Historically there was a major correlation. Today, not so much.

OK. I´ll say the assumed suddenly Big Bang Creation "from nothing" is faith based and even more so compared to the assumed biblical 6 days of creation.

The big bang is not assumed, all (thats ALL) evidence points to a BB event

The assumed "from nothing" is just one of several hypothesis based on observations, mathematics and evidence in our own universe.

Here is a link to one scenario of how a universe could come from nothing

Spontaneous creation of the universe from nothing

Thats just a synopsis, click the download pdf to the right of the page for the full paper... If you are interested.
