The UN says Saudi women face restrictions

Women in Saudi Arabia should be allowed more basic freedoms, according to a UN anti-discrimination committee.

The UN don't know what they are talking about.

Let me quote something from the link you gave us:

https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=27511396&postID=115104236750907700

Oh, thats all wrong, How told you to speak about us! huh??

I am a saudi woman and me and all my family and friends and many many womans feel comfortable in Saudi Arabia, we are taking our rights, and thats limits we have it protects us as a women, What do you want us to be???? president?? Really you all make me laugh, you are not living with us and you talk about us, As Bush did with Iraq and putting your nose in every place!!!

Please leave us alone!!!!

I know that you are doing this just because most of you hate islam, and want to show all the people that you are the right ones and we are the strange and crazy.
But, you all must know that we don't need any forign to speake about us, and if there is some saudi woman agree with you, so they must speak about themselves not about the all!

Respect our freedom please,

Ghada

And another one ...

This is not your problem,oke?
Let the muslims solve this problem, oke?
We dont want the help of christians. We all know their goal: to convert many people from islam to christianity.

Inshallah, the situation in saudi arabia will be better: women will drive alone by car, women will get good jobs.Inshallah this will happen soon in saudi arabia.
However i dont want saudi arabia to be changed into a country like usa where the women dresses very bad(short jeans and blablaba).

I ask you, christians and atheists,to leave muslims from saudi-arabia alone. If the population of saudi-arabia want to see big changes,it will happen but they dont need your help.

Iraq did not asked for bush's help.

And ... let's have one more ....

you guys get a life. I am a saudi girl.i live in riyadh. I go to school. I am happy. I go out everyday. I shop. I have an i pod.
i have a laptop. I travel out of the country every year. I am doing better than and enjoying life more than my western female friends.

I guess my sister--who by the way wear like the picture you put in your OP--would have said something similar to anyone of these girls above who stated their opinion about their country.

So you see, we are sick of those who put their noses where it doesn't belong!

We are so sick of it!

Basic freedom? They should be allowed to be people not property. A fine example of what the dark ages would have been like if people had no common sense.

It is evident these people are abused and if you think other wise you are delusional. I have seen it first hand I know what the truth is.

The Muslim women speak for themselves and yet you say the evidence points in another direction… I find this dreadfully odd but not surprising…

Umm.. yep, I do and it is fact not opinion. I guess it goes without saying this is not true of the entire population of Muslims but more would do it if they could get away with it.

You mean, like people who aren't French but say the French should allow schoolgirls to wear hijab? Or people who aren't Turkish but say the Turks should allow the chador?

People in abusive relationships often make excuses for their abusers.

And here is the problem with the region.
If given democracy, they would probably vote their rights away.

heres a couple more quotes you missed Abu Khalid and the UN report its not about Islam its about equal rights for women in Saudi Arabia i dont think banning women from driving cars would be in the Qur'an
Since I live in Saudi Arabia, I know better about my country, and my (religion). Make your researches, and then decide, they're completely suspended from eachother.

There's the religion that I follow which is the true Islam.

And there's the religion that is made by a certain group of demented people who spread discrimination, and they're the obstacle against women getting their rights in here.

It's sad that my country happens to be the number one resource to mutilate the image of Islam. But, what can we do?
Any reasonable person reading Al Qu'ran can see that women are not intended to be driving cars. Their duty is to the children in the home and their husband, not managing an automobile and being lured into temptation and lust. There are many foreign men on streets waiting to tempt women with lewd pornography and alcohol.

in fact its a very interesting site you have led me to

Saudi Arabian Womens Rites
We stand for Women's Rights as defined in the International Law, Convention against discrimination of women (Cedaw). We are not politically or religiously binded. We protest against the treatment of women in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Please read our letter and petition below.

Kai, the thing you quoted above is just a remark by someone who wants others to believe that this is a Saudi man talking. I live in saudi arabia. A saudi man would never speak english in this good way, and it would be really ridiculous for him to speak in this silly way anyway. I don't believe you fell for that, kai.

Anyway, i started this thread to talk about the so called basic freedom in general!
