    Who the Hell is Satan?

Here's my understanding of this "Old Enemy" as the literary scholar Neil Forsyth coined and what I consider to be the foundation of what is called Satanism.

Satan has always existed, only under other names and guises, Satan is a powerful and primordial archetype of man's psyche . . . a meme, or what some may now call a "Godform", I think the Magus of Chaos, Peter Carroll uses that term?

This archetype is the reflection of how we perceive ourselves in relation to what we call the "others". Satan is a social and cultural phenomenon as old as the mind of humanity itself. There has always and will always, be essentially two worldviews consisting of oppositions and they are "Us & Them" or "Me" and "the rest of you" . . . etc.

Sumerian and Akkadian tablets concur this worldview from the earliest known writings, the ancient Egyptian word for an Egyptian meant "human", which excluded all who were not Egyptian to be relegated to 'non-human', the Greek word for non-Greeks was "barbaroi" (barbarians). The Jewish Essenes called anyone, not an Essene "ha-satan" (the adversary), Zoroastrianism set forth the dualistic "good" (what we believe in) and "evil" (what they believe in).

"A society does not simply discover its others, it fabricates them, by selecting, isolating, and emphasizing an aspect of another people's life, and making it symbolizes their difference" - William Scott Green (Professor of the history of religion - ancient Judaism, biblical studies, and the theory of religion).

So, who/what is this Satan? He simply is who you are not!

He's basically a fallen angel. Angels are spiritual beings created to worship and serve God in heaven. They do this tirelessly and with joy ... that is normally they do. But even though they were created holy; yet they do have free will. So some of them have chosen to rebel against God. Satan essentially became proud and arrogant. He decided he was just as good as God. He basically wanted to become equal with God. It's utterly impossible for him to be equal with God; so we can definitely say that satan is insane. But that doesn't change the fact that he's dangerous.

His intellect is definitely off the charts for human standards. If he took an IQ test then I don't think it would be measurable. He's a dangerous foe.

God let's him have some freedom to harm because satan is acting as a kind of prosecuting attorney against humanity. Satan wants to prove that we're bad also. He doesn't like the idea that he is bad and no one else is. He probably does a pretty good job of proving humans are bad. But he's not always right.

The Bible doesn't record Satan as having committed genocide.

Although you're showing an interesting side of the human psyche how we clan together and mistrust outsiders. Yet, we could easily find other old stories and myths from ancient times to prove the existence of "demons" (evil spirits) and "fallen angels" or those they would call gods. The spiritual realm is real whether people are comfortable with it or not.

Feel free to show 'anything' proving the existence of "demons" (evil spirits) and "fallen angels" . . .

What proof do you have? Jehovah destroyed cities, drown the planet, demanded certain tribes be butchered, and struck a person dead here and there. From what the Bible tells us Satan killed only a few people, and with god's permission.

So, he thought he was too good-looking for Heaven? Well, I guess that is a fair bit of conceit. But how could that have happened? Why would Satan believe that he was better looking than the other angels, and why would anyone care anyway?

Either way, if angels weren't supposed to have free will, then somehow Satan's "programming" must have gone haywire. So, either God made some kind of unintentional mistake, or He created Satan on purpose. Or maybe, none of the above. Who can really say for certain?

No, he does because God wills its. Angel's don't have free will like we do. He was created for this very purpose. I don't think he has feeling for us one way or another, but like all angel's he has devotion to God in his own way.

More accurately, Zoroastrianism is also a form of dualism.
satan made nothing(lies, illusion something that appears true but isn't)
G-d made everything else that is true and really valuable.

That sounds like pretty equal standing.

Or you're just translating "elohim" wrongly.

Unless it's used as a metaphor, and there are a number of Christian and Jewish theologians that believe it likely is. As for me, it makes no difference one way or the other.

I understand it could be translated differently. But that doesn't mean it should be translated differently.

How many times do the Psalms say that the LORD is higher than "all gods"?
So if the scripture says there are other "gods" even though it also says of them that they are "idols". (Psalm 96) Yet it remains true that God has called them "gods" because the scripture cannot be broken.

Yet that being said we find in Leviticus 17:7, Deuteronomy 32:17 and Psalm 106:37. They sacrifice to devils or demons.

So all that being understood; that explains who God was talking to in Psalm 82 and why He said what He said. "I have said ye are gods" ... which He did say. But, He concludes "Nevertheless ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.'"

So these angelic beings have rebelled against the most High and been worshiped as gods. They taught humans idolatry but God will judge them.
How do you explain the existence of lies in a universe made by a God of truth?
I wish it was a metaphor. Satan is as real as you or I unfortunately.

"Opinion" is not synonymous with "fact".

How much evidence do you need to establish the existence of something? The scripture says let every word be established by 2 or 3 witnesses. I myself have encountered demons more than once and many other people have as well.

A lie is more accurately false testimony, leading to murder and/or theft. Deception is only the means... the outcome is always theft... murder is theft, too.

"Son of man, lift up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, And thou hast said to him: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Thou art sealing up a measurement, Full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. In Eden, the garden of God, thou hast been, Every precious stone thy covering, Ruby, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle, and gold, The workmanship of thy tabrets, and of thy pipes, In thee in the day of thy being produced, have been prepared. Thou [art] an anointed cherub who is covering, And I have set thee in the holy mount, God thou hast been, In the midst of stones of fire thou hast walked up and down. Perfect [art] thou in thy ways, From the day of thy being produced, Till perversity hath been found in thee. By the abundance of thy merchandise They have filled thy midst with violence, And thou dost sin, And I thrust thee from the mount of God, And I destroy thee, O covering cherub, From the midst of the stones of fire. High hath been thy heart, because of thy beauty, Thou hast corrupted thy wisdom because of thy brightness, On the earth I have cast thee, Before kings I have set thee, to look on thee, From the abundance of thy iniquity, By the perversity of thy traffic, Thou hast polluted thy sanctuaries, And I bring forth fire from thy midst, It hath devoured thee, And I make thee become ashes on the earth, Before the eyes of all beholding thee."(Ezekiel 28:12-16, Septuagint)

In other words, he wanted what didn't belong to him. And that's why we see him in Eden, trying to take the dominion of the Earth away from mankind. Jesus won it back by not trading the (stones of the) Earth for a loaf of bread. He was hungry, but didn't give up His birthright... and the angels fed Him manna.

As i remember from the 3 versions of the bible ive read satan never killed anyone. Unlike god who killed every living organism on this planet except a close buddy, some of the buddies immediate family and around 20 million animals.

Oh yes and it wasn't satan who killed every firstborn child in Egypt.

Oh yes and it wasn't satan who carried out the 10s of thousands of other killings

    No murder is justified.

Besides that was not the point. Which was @74x12 said satan was a homicidal maniac when clearly that is not true but on the other hand god is clearly a genocidal maniac.
