Sanders For President? (Socialist Only)

Hey everyone,

We are perhaps a week away from Bernie Sanders winning a majority of the states in the democratic primary on super Tuesday. It is not certain but it is likely that he would then go on to be the Democratic Party's Presidential candidate.

For the first time in American history, a self-described "socialist" will be the candidate for one of the major parties. The United States would then be one election away from having a Socialist President.

To give some context, the best performance of a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party of America was in 1912, when Eugene V. Debs received 901,551 votes and 6.0% of the vote. The best performance for a Presidential Candidate of the Communist Party USA was in 1932 when William Z. Foster received 103, 307 votes and 0.26% of the vote.

In 2016, Bernie Sanders got 13,206,428 votes in the Democratic Presidential Primary (excluding Iowa, Maine, Nevada, North Dakota, Washington, Wyoming or non-binding primaries).

As the Democratic Party nominee, Bernie Sanders would receive more votes than any previous Socialist in American History even if he lost. If Sanders won, it would put a Socialist in the White House. So it is a historic opportunity whatever the outcome will be.

So what I'd like to ask is, what would you like and want to do over the next few months to increase the odds of Bernie Sanders getting elected and removing Donald Trump from office? The state of the world only gets better if we try. :)

As soon as the primaries have been decided, I am heading to the local branch of the Democratic Party to see how I can volunteer to get out the vote and otherwise support whichever candidate is going to take down our current insane dictator-wanna-be.

Is being a social democrat who supports Bernie close enough to socialist to reply in this thread? I'd like to talk to a few of my friends who are not as involved in politics to encourage them to vote this year. I live in Cali so the Dem will win regardless, but I would still like as many people as possible to be civically engaged.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post in this forum.

Could I get the staff to either give me permission or delete this post?

The definition for the sub-forum is quite broad, so I imagine you will be able to post. I'd normally post in the Communist sub-forum, but figured posting here would give more people the opportunity to contribute their thoughts. :)

Socialist: Subscribing to the ideas of public ownership of production and cooperative management of the economy. This ideology can be seen in Marxism, libertarian socialism, social democracy, and others. People who find themselves in this ideology often identify with political organizations such as: Socialist International, Socialist Party USA, Democratic Socialists of America, New Democratic Party (Canada), Social Democratic Party of Germany.
