Saint of the day, October 1st

St Therese of Lisieux, also known as the Little Flower, was given the little way to sanctity... She realized she could do nothing great, so she did nothing but little things with great love.

She found that everything, dishes, laundry, sweeping, cooking, dusting, and whatever other humble labors around the convent needed to be done, were all acts of love for the Creator... She believed that doing these little acts with great love would have powerful effects on the world outside of the convent as well.

She died at age 24, not really doing anything remarkable with her life, yet the pope said she was the greatest saint of modern times.

She reminds us that the little chores and humble responsibilities that we must attend to can be deeply spiritual practices, penitential offerings, acts of love that can transform the world around us.
