And that's where the analogy gets sticky.

In theory, I agree: we should butt out and let the crackheads figure it out.

But there are innocents caught in the cross-fire. There are no cops-- or rather, we (the international community, not just the US), are the only help available.

Do we sit and watch while these tweakers kill and maim a bunch of kids and innocent bystanders?

It's a hard choice.

An effective, consensus-driven international community (ostensibly the UN) would be the cops. We, as a sovereign country, have no right or business to take on that role.
