    In Genesis it says:

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,a]">[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

In the original text in Hebrew, which word is translated as ''rule''?

Here's what I do for these sort of questions...

Biblehub.com has the "interlinear" version of the Christian bible. This lets you see how the translation is intended to match up word for word.

So... for this one. I search google for: "biblehub genesis 1:26" then, I click on the "interlin" link. It's a little hidden, so here's a hint:

here's the search result from google: ( link )

The first hit... that's it :)

from there; here's the interlinear link...

    upload_2019-11-21_10-30-56.png

and then that gives you this:

    upload_2019-11-21_10-31-59.png

    And that's the answer.

    "V'yirdu"

If you click on the number :7287, the Strong's Index details of this word is provided.

    Have Fun!

The key word in this, IMHO, is dominion. That implies royalty. Not exploit.

See here for the relationship between "in our image" and dominion.

    Thank you! :)

If I understood correctly dominion is a Godly quality?

I get impatient with rhetorical questions. Why don't you simply make your point?

I mean, God said to humans to have dominion, because humans resemble God? God said to make humans as Gods idols, and because of this, humans dominate animals.

All the potential is latent within us. We can choose to be Just.

Dominion requires trufulness, trustworthiness, Justice and concern for all.

Further support for this: can be found in Midrash Rabbah.

The idea presented there is quite elegant, because, everything that's needed is in the verse.

Looking at the verse, who rules? the ones who are in the likeness of G-d. The Midrash Genesis Rabbah ( 8:12 ) points this out and makes the following conclusion:

When people behave in the likeness of G-d they have potential to rule. Otherwise, they don't. That's what I take away from this snippet of commentary, at least.
