RF Chat Rules

Since the chat room is part of Religious Forums as a whole the same rules apply there as on elsewhere on the forum, but with some exceptions. This thread lists the exceptions to these rules as well as explains how members can report disruptive behaviour in the chat room and how the chat moderation differs from the forum moderation.

I. Exceptions to the RF Rules
These rules are an extension to the rules found here: RF Rules | ReligiousForums.com

4. Spam and Advertising/Off Topic Posts
The chat is not restricted to only one topic at a time, meaning the rule about off topic posts doesn't apply. Members are free to discuss as many topics at once as they like.

5. Pornography, Profanity, and Adult Content
Profanity and adult content are not moderated as strictly as on the forum. However, two additional rules apply:

1) All links with adult content need to be marked with a NSFW (not safe for work) tag:

Pornography is NOT allowed anywhere on RF.

2) Adult content and profanity are not allowed when there are minors in the room. If any member expresses their discomfort related to these topics, other chatters must respect this and stop immediately.

10. Discuss Individual Religions Forums/Same Faith Debates/"Only Sections"
The chat is treated as a debating area by default. However if a member makes clear they do not want their beliefs to be debated (by themselves or others), the conversation must be restricted to the rules used in green DIRs.

II. Reporting members for chat behaviour
Members can be reported for their behaviour from the Report link in their profile. If a moderator isn't present in the room to witness the conversation, please copy the part of the conversation you are reporting and paste it into the report field. You can also PM a staff member online and ask them to join the chat room to remove the member.

Any time you feel uncomfortable by the behaviour of another chat member and there is a moderator in the room, you can either openly tell the moderator about your feelings or PM them about it.

III. How these rules are enforced
Staff members have the right to remove a disruptive member from the room if these rules are broken without staff consensus. The member is invited to the Site Feedback forum to discuss their behaviour, and any further action submitted to staff consensus.

Why no staff consensus?
Getting a consensus for an action takes time. In the chat however conflicts happen in real time and need to be reacted to immediately. If a member doesn't stop their behaviour after a warning from a moderator, they are temporarily removed to defuse the situation and let back in when the staff has had a chance to talk with them and a consensus is reached on what to do with the them.

Chat conversation logs

All conversations in the chat are being logged in order to ensure an unbiased account of the conversation when it's needed for moderation purposes. Due to privacy reasons the log is only available to staff members and no private information shared in the chat will become public without the member's permission.

IV. Change Log
2014/12/4
The chat is now being logged for moderating purposes.
