Did Republicans deliberately crash the US economy?

Well, what do you think? Are the republicans actively hurting the country in order to make Obama look bad? Even if all they are doing is refusing to work with Dems it is still allowing the country to suffer and for what? Spite? Power and Control? Have politicians ever cared about the country instead of their own gains?

I think yes, they have. Probably the most incompetent, spiteful, war hungry people are republican politicians. So many bills were just deadlocked. America's pretty much doomed with these whackos in power, and that's the main reason it's power is waning. Oh not to mention most of them believe science is faulty and flawed and that the earth is 6000 years old, LOL.

Well it would be strange if the Republicans WANTED him to be a two-term president woulden't it?

Agreed. However, the statement in question would seem to go beyond your apparent interpretation.

True. But you miss the point.

"The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."
Call me crazy, but I would have thought that the single most important thing for the republicans to achieve would have been to create jobs, secure our borders, and generally make the lives of the American populus as good as they can while they are in office.
At least that is what they told the public.

As for the title of the thread....Republican sabotage....
....at this point in the game, I think it is completely fair to dust off the term "Treason".

I think some of the Republican leadership might have gone off the deep end and, in doing so, come to see Obama as something along the lines of evil incarnate. Alternately, maybe they're just obeying their masters -- the uber rich individuals and corporations that pretty much own them.

You know, one of the scariest thoughts for me is that many of them believe what they are saying. Politicians lying to get elected is one thing, wild eyed fanatics is altogether something else.

What??? The Obama administration was completely unchecked for the first two years of his Presidency, when Democrats controlled the Presidency, the House, and the Senate. Even then, the DEMOCRATS could not reach a consensus.

In three years, the Obama administration has spent more in deficit spending than Bush did in eight years.

Look - I am not blaming the Obama administration or Democrats alone for the mess our economy is in. The causes are complex and cannot be laid at any one political party's doorstep.

Also, the problems are not our country's alone. We are operating within a global economy. In case no one else has noticed, the WORLD economy is spiraling into a dark morass of dysfunction and despair. In the total scheme of things, our economy actually is stronger than many EU countries' economies.

Because, at Obama's urging, they were trying to find bipartisan solutions with an openly obstructionist minority party.

I'm sorry - were you actually paying attention to what went on the first two years the man was in office? You honestly call his attitude and the attitudes of Democrats OR Republicans during those years as cooperative and congenial and bipartisan?

The past three years have definitely showcased the absolute WORST behavior and attitudes of our elected representatives -across the board.

TBH, not to anything but the health care bill. Which, if you recall, was gutted time and time again in misguided attempts to get the GOP reps on board. It didn't work.

*shrug* Obama no longer inspires me as he did, I have no remaining trust for the man. I had high hopes when he was elected I admit - now he's just another politician.

The only Congressman I can muster any admiration for is Kucinich, so I'm not going to defend the lot of them.

That said, the Republicans have gone from lame ***, petty, despicable (iow, typical) politicians to bureaucratic saboteurs. Somewhere on teh intertubes today, someone suggested "brushing off the word 'treason'" (or maybe it was reviving, I was just waking up), and I honestly believe that it's getting to that point.

It's one thing to stick to your guns and do what you think is right - QUITE another to deliberately castrate the government in an attempt to make the PEOPLE'S ELECTED MAJORITY look incompetent for a power grab.

Sad part is, the average voter is apathetically uninformed enough for it to work.

The blame for America's problems are mostly the republicans. You can sugarcoat it all you like but when you have anti science, anti research, pro military complex, pro rich corporation, pro oil, Earth is 6000 years old believing politicians running a country in a modern world, you're going to severely damage it.

The only reason America is doing well is because of it's capitalism and immigration policies. Americans also work harder and longer hours generally speaking. But it will never reclaim the power and prestige it had. Sure the unions are bad and welfare is a bit too much and yea health care is broken, but when you have politicians who act like pawns of the super rich the country suffers.

Do you think the President would have spent what he did if it weren't for the Bushy Recession?

If you believe that the recession was caused by Bush and his policies alone, I have got a great real estate deal for you involving oceanfront property in Arizona.

Not alone, but indeed the vast majority was/is the fault of those that have been misled into voting for the republican candidates.
