I'm glad that all the substantial issues have been dealt with so that my elected representatives have time for the trivial stuff. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside that all the important problems of the country have been taken care of.

But that aside, I kinda like the beaver.

Fun fact: thanks to Wikipedia, I learned that along with the beaver, the Canadian Horse is another official animal symbol of Canada.

I dont get the importance of a country having an "official" animal  Its not like the animal becomes aware of it and receives honors. Its more like a novelty if you ask me :D

When a country adopts an official animal, it's effectively saying that the characteristics of the animal are also reflected in the nation.

Ohh ok. Well that changes everything. So Canada would be, industrious hard working builders?

And that means America is endangered then :D ;)

A 'Pest' which is subjective vs something that will DEFINITELY stalk and kill you if it has the chance...

If most Canadians (who I doubt have even seen a beaver more than once at best) would start seeing Polar Bears more often I HIGHLY doubt they'd be the 'more acceptable' choice....

Canadians are ferocious hunters that hunt wild donkeys and elephants. ;)

    Here, too. :D

And "bear" is slang for a large, hairy gay man.

Really? I had never heard of it until just now.

I'm a bit of a city boy, you see - I don't really hang out with horses.

And we have teabags for breakfast. :D

Doesn't Canada already have a reputation as a frigid land of snow and ice, the "Great White North?"
Why would it want to enhance this image with a polar bear?

Once upon a time a former student who wasn't quite ready for late hour sexual innuendo told his prim and proper teacher across the hall from my classroom the joke from a Canadian coin (nickel) about the Queen and her beaver. Poor Teach didn't know exactly how to explain the deeper meaning.

There's also the joke about how the two-dollar coin should be called a "moonie", because it has the Queen on the front with a bear behind. :D

For the record, I like the beaver as our national animal. Those guys are the epitome of good planning and hard work. Too bad our politicians couldn't follow suit.
