Yet another piece of the puzzle discovered. It keeps getting more complete.

Researchers have discovered a "remarkably complete" cranium of a human ancestor dating back 3.8 million years.

The fossil, known as MRD-VP-1/1, was found in Feburary 2016 at the Woranso-Mille paleontological site in the Afar region in northern Ethiopia, and paleoanthropologists and geologists have been conducting an extensive analysis on it ever since, according to a news release from the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

It's an exciting time in paleoanthropology. Can't wait to see what new discoveries are made.

Because of the diversity of primate relatives being found in recent years, particularly subspecies variants of australopithecines being discovered, many subspecies are found to be living at the same time making it understandable difficult to define a specific human lineage, and unlikely that will be ever defined, but nonetheless the trend over a period of millions of years is that the overall lineage human ancestors is very apparent and becoming more complete with the discovery of more of our relatives. Even at the sapiens level of recent human history there have been found a number closely related primates like the Neanderthals and the Denisovans that these are better described as related subspecies that are known to interbred. The old concept of species evolving to species is becoming rapidly outdated. Diversity among related subspecies over time has been more and more accepted as how evolution takes place, and not a stepwise evolution of one species evolving into another. Actually populations evolve through diversity, and not through individuals. This has been observed in the diversity of related subspecies and varieties in rainforest animals and plants that is fertile ground for evolution.

Exactly. Nothing even resembling modern human races even existed at that time.

And this cranium's owner would be ancestor to us all.
Should be more uniting than divisive, eh.

This is the size of the new skull they found.....its tiny, like a small dog.

This is a reconstruction of the features of this "ancestor" along with the cranium size.
There is no real evidence that humans had ancestors who looked like this.
It is an assumption...based more on imagination, rather than real evidence.

    Human skull....note cranium size.

Who does it most resemble? Ape or man? Isn't this imagination running riot?

I don't know what all the fuss is about...?

This Ethiopian "find" is not a "human" skull...it is clearly a small ape. Who says its an ancestor of man? Science does not really know that apes evolved into humans....it is only supposed that they did.....and with very flimsy evidence to back it up. Similarity does not confirm relationship. Who said that the diversity of apes is even a result of evolution?

    Much ado about nothing IMO.....

    From the linked article...
"The most important conclusion scientists have made is that Australopithecus anamensis coexisted for at least 100,000 years with its descendant species, Australopithecus afarensis, debunking the previous theory that evolution was simply linear over time.

I can't speak to how they identified it & the others.
But it's clear that they don't think it's just any ape.

Not only are we apes, our early ancestors themselves were small apes, not very tall or large at all.

The fossil of 3.8 million years old. Modern humans have only existed for about 200,000 years. A lot can happen and change in a few million years.

There is a lot of debunking still to take place I'll wager....o_O
Taking science's word for what they cannot support with any real evidence is just gullibility IMO.
Who put science up there on that pedestal? It s a long way to fall.

    Neither can they....

No, its something to jump up and down about, making world headlines!.....but the world is jumping too.....because they believe everything scientists say like they are God and science is their religion.....

Who said? And where is the proof for all these allegations? I have only ever seen assumptions dressed up as science. They have nothing but imagination palmed off as evidence. Its complete rubbish.
