I'm looking for some good religious music.

I already have Lush and I'm getting in Matisyahu. Anyone else that anyone can suggest, can be any religious music that's funky its own little way.

Thanks.

Any religions actually.

I'll listen to just about everything.

I should send you a CD of the choir I was singing with, then.

You could learn to sing a couple of things in Farsi and amaze your friends. haha!

You might like the Gospel-style tunes too.

That's a pretty wide classification, including several different genres. What genre are you interested in?

I have a CD of some wonderful South American very early Cathedral music; it is a compilation of various artists. Although I can't find the CD:rolleyes: I have found a link to it here http://www.towerrecords.com/product.aspx?from1=PERF&pfid=2811521 (it look like you can listen to previews of the music); it is hauntingly wonderful. The best track is the first one entitled "Hanaq pachap kusikuyin".

Honestly, give it a listen, it really "stirred" me. In fact, I am going to listen to it now (I have it on my hard drive as well). Thanks for making me think of it!: hamster :

Hi Becky. There is song entitled "Krishna" from an album called "Colonial Cousins" by an Indian duo called, well..Colonial Cousins. The song "Krishna" is the only religious song on that album though. It has some Hindi chanting but the main theme of the song is asking God to return to earth, whether he comes back as Jesus, Rama or Allah. You can listen to the song at:
http://www.chalo.net/cgi-bin/link.cgi?source=music.html&target=www.desimusic.com/music/pop/songs/835/colonial-cousins.html
Just check the box where you see "Krishna" and click - Play Selected. I have a CD with the song but I didn't know how to attach it. Please, listen to that song. It's so beautiful.

I got the words of the song I told you about before, someone submitted the words to a website but some of the words seemed wrong, so I did a little re-editing:

CHORUS: Krishna Ni Bhe Gha-Ni, Baroo !
Krishna Ni Bhe Gha-Ni, Baroo !

Darkness coming around,
And every body fighting with their brother
Everybody wants control,
Don't hesitate to kill one-another

So come back as Jesus
Come back and save the world
Bless all the future of every boy and girl
Come back as Rama,
Forgive us for what we've done
Come back as Allah,
Come back as anyone

CHORUS: .......

Religion is the reason,
The world is breaking up into pieces
Colour of the people,
Keeps us locked in hate please release us

So Come down and help us,
Save all the little ones
They need a teacher,
And you are the only one
We can rely on,
To build a better world
A world that's for children,
A world that's for everyone

CHORUS:.....

(Interlude)

Time is healer, and time moves on
Time don't wait for anyone
So, Tell me you'll be back
But that will take some time
I'm waiting ////...... (with interlude)

I'm waiting, yeah yeah......

Come back as Jesus
Come back and save the world
We need a teacher,
and You are the only one
Come back as Rama
Forgive us for what we've done
Come back as Allah
Come back for everyone.......

(Interlude)

Govinda bolo Hari Gopala bolo .....//////////// (Fade)

Sully Erna, the front man of Godsmack, is Wiccan, and he does hint at some of the believes in some of the songs. One of my favorites is The Spiral, which is about reincarnation.

I only have a few Wicca/Pagan chants on my computer, but I've found that the most compelling music is actually non-religious. I use a lot of show-tunes and such to set the mood for me.

But otherwise, Mediaeval Baebes, Loreena McKennitt, Heather Alexander and Blackmore's Night are good to check out.
