I'm not sure how mathematics fits into the question, though.

When I was a Guru follower, I believed the phrase "God is great, but Guru is greater because Guru reveals God"
    @Unveiled Artist ETA
So greater is better than great.

calculus is different than algebra in that less can be more.....paradoxical it appears
but once we reduce everything to nice neat lines and boxes we aren't talking about the phenomenology anymore, we are into someone's idea about it.......maybe it's beneficial is some way, maybe not, but we shall eventually see, or perhaps not.

Might be. I am from a different culture, by I was never a hierarchical person either, more the opposite even.

Thank you for putting this into words. I have experienced yesterday the same feeling, but could not word it as clear as you do now.:)

Though "rhetorical and not being direct" might not be sarcastic, cynical, ironic, when asked specific questions, it easily "kills/closes" open communication

I think it would depend on the specific context.
What context are you referring to and what/who are you referring to?

Is that a transitive "greater than"?

You tried to appear deep and failed. Perhaps you should take responsibility for your failure to communicate.

I tried doing it in religious context without giving too much away to ruin the meaning behind it. It's vague intentionally. The theme is heirarchy versus equality

Jay, some understand, others do not. If it were communication, no one would understand it.

Why on earth do you keep belittling my and others posts? If you don't understand it, don't reply. No need to be rude.

    Can you rephrase the question?

You know, it actually does. I notice that's a pattern on RF. That or it's just how people talk. Some languages are more direct in nature. I think the message is lost when directness is translated to indirect english with it's idioms etc. In person in conversation if it's not direct I loose focus easily. Something I'm still working on.

    In mathematics, a transitive relationship is when A > B and B > C then A > C for all A, B, C.
There are relationships that aren't transitive. Rock, paper, scissors being a common example where rock > scissors, scissors > paper and paper > rock.
    Does that help?

Greater is more of something. The more you have the more responsibility there is.

Greater in terms of power, or value must be earned.

It would be better to be equal with more. But greater has been gotten causing inequality. So the onus is on the greater to make everything equal again, and with more.

    Equality is peace.

Would you rather be the Greatest with no equals? Or Be the best and make everyone better so that you are not alone?

I think the greatest sin in humanity is the pursuit of being the greatest, and looking down on others as inferior or unworthy.

    That looks like probabilities?

5 is greater than 4 is greater than 2 so 5 is greater than 2? (Guessing)

I'm actually lost to what you mean in relation to my OP.

I learned that communication works best if people just say what they feel, that's heart-communication
If people are not direct, use sarcasm, irony, cynicism they use mind-communication, so heart-communication is closed by them (most do it unaware)

I used to fully be blocked in good communication, and had to discover it myself. Took me years.
Language is not the problem. Though people in some cultures are more direct, hence it seems that language might cause it.

I guess religion and mathematics don't mix well. You end up with things like 3=1.

Can you give it religious context?

Math isn't my strong point. I used the words as an analogy but not a means to an end.
