What are annoyances and small complaints you have about yours, others, or just religion as a topic? If any :) Very anecdote heavy thread

I didn't like stress for clothing to a church recently, I am always underdressed in it because it's always fancier than what I own but I went anyway
One day I'll get the right hats and look like a "praise God all the time" lady

    Having nothing.

Never understood 'church dress' culture. Not a thing here anymore.

As a non-religious person I have no reason to be annoyed by relious practices apart from when these get forced on other people. Fortunately, I live in a country that separates religion from government, so that's not much of a concern, here.

I find that most religious folks are generally quite honest and pleasant to deal with regardless of whatever their theological beliefs. And I appreciate them for that.

    In no particular order:

    1) People asking me "why did God do this?" or "what is His reason for that?" as if I am God when they can just ask Him for themselves. I think this practice comes from the gossiping termagant nature people have in general, leading them to ask someone about a person rather than ask said person about themselves in many social situations.
    2) People asking me to entertain questions about "what if you were God?" which is literally unanswerable and incomprehensible to me and leads me to think we do not at all mean the same thing by the word "God."
    3) 19th century German liberal Protestants. Perhaps they are the root of all evil. Frankly, 19th century Germany at all. The only legitimate problem of evil is why God permitted that to happen. If you know you know, if you don't know you won't know.
    4) The exceeding cost of books. The stacking and reading of them has no end. There is always another one which is "essential" to read.
    5) Misrepresentations of ideas based on individuals not having read books. This has become more minor for me over time since I resolved to not discuss matters with said individuals on those topics, saves stress.
    6) How front-loaded into the morning various practices can be due to peasant time or something. Although learning to live by Sunlight is a fun experience, adjusting hours that way.
    7) The feeling of having "left someone hanging" when invoking Saints or praying for others, since one can not keep mentioning names and causes for hours before praying, so they are forced to choose. This follows from me hating to make choices though.

I wouldn't say this is annoying but when I practiced shoshu Buddhism we couldn't turn our back to the gohonzon (inscribed religious sacrament). So we walked backwards outside the worship area in the temple. Can't remember what it's called.

People not mentioning which God they're talking about when they make threads on RF, in which the identity of the God clearly needs to be known in order to respond meaningfully to the post.

The common assumption that because I'm American that I'm Christian. Though I suppose they would be correct most of the time, people talk to me as if we all share the same God. I generally don't want to be rude so I listen without comment.

Perhaps it is more rude not to first ask one's belief before assuming a shared one.

Must depend on the circle. While on RF, I see a lot of assumptions that all theists believe in the Abrahamic god, out and about I encounter most people (under 50) assuming the other is atheist.

No, you keep doing what you’re able to do. You wear the best you have, you go clean and groomed if you can, and not think you have to keep up with others.

I hate when people say "your Christian name" as opposed to your "given name". Ask my son, Yudhishtira, what his Christian name is.

"The word Yudhishthira means "the one who is steady in the war", from the words, yuddha (युद्ध) meaning 'war', and sthira (स्थिर) meaning 'steady.'" That's just a great name honestly. I love the meanings of names.

Fitting. His older brother is Ares, and despite his chaotic nature, little Yudhi(which is what we call him for short) plays very well with his brother, and is completely oblivious to any kind of discord around him. He is very steady indeed in situations that sometimes get crazy.

Someone might say “oh you mean Yehuda?” :D I’d never think of using “what’s your Christian name”, especially given the number of people who have decidedly non-Christian names. My birth name Frank, on my birth certificate is not a Christian name, not one recognized by the RCC, which I was born and baptized into. At my baptism when the priest asked my aunt (my godmother) my name she used the Christian form of it, Francis. That’s what’s on my baptismal certificate, but it’s not my name. People assume it is and will call me by it, at which point I tell them nope, that’s not it, my name’s Frank. Not Francis, not Franklin, not even the Italian version Franco. ... Frank, plain and simple. The only other name I answer to is “hey, Fatboy!” :D

    So anyway... yeah... :)
