Most people that are interested in motorcycles and MC racing tend to think Harley Davidson motorcycle are slow dinosaurs. That myth has some truth to it, the Harley street bikes are not as fast as the Asian and European super-bikes. H-D enthusiasts like traditional bikes and for a HD that means a two cylinder ovh, air cooled motorcycle. The HD factory knows what their customers want and that is what they build. However, the good news for those of us that like fast Harley is the street Harleys have been getting faster & faster and are now at least respectably fast. Still even the sportiest bkies from HD are not meant to compete with water-cooled supercharged (as in the kaw ninja) DOCH 4 cylinder 'import' bikes. Of course HD factory could build motorcycles that would better the Japanese and European bikes and bragging rights on the street if they wanted to. l know that statement is true because they usually dominate racing using their street bikes as a template for their race bikes. For example Harley Davidson based motorcycles have dominated Pro Street motorcycle drag racing for over ten years. That said most pro stock drag racing motorcycles have modified and many non- stock components, not just harleys have non stock parts the Asian and European drag racing MC's do as well. (see bottom of page). Lets not forget flat track racing where again HD dominates, and lastly but not least is Land speed record attempts. Land Speed Racing or record attempts are held in Bonneville salt flats where cars and motorcycles attempt to set top speed records in various classes. In 2018 a Harley Davidson using stock engine cases and most major mechanical parts set a land speed record of nearly 260 mph! The bike was owned and modified by Hiro Kiso. It ran in the partially faired motorcycle class. 260 MPH! That is major, major, wayyyy' furry freaking fast for a 'sit on' motorcycle. The term 'sit on bike' is to differentiate between an 'lay down' streamliner and a rider that 'sits on' the bike in a 'normal' fashion. A streamliner is completely covered in a body for aerodynamic advantage and is reserved for the bikes that usually run over 300mph. Oh that's not all! Hiro's bike blew a front tire at over 260 MPH! Check out the Utube for an 'you are there' video when the HD that set the new record and blew the front tire blow at over 250 MPH! Its a CRAZY vid.

Anyway if there are any motorcycle racing enthusiasts out there I hope you enjoy the vid!

Pro Stock Motorcycle - Wikipedia Pro Stock Motorcycle - Wikipedia The category was mostly dominated by Suzuki GS powered machines until the introduction of the Buell and the Harley-Davidson V-Rod. The V-Rod debuted in 2002 and the Buell debuted in 2003. From 2004 to 2012 the Vance and Hines V-Rod was arguably the most dominant motorcycle in the class
