Do you think Rachel is a liar?
If I trusted what the internet says about the Duce I would not like him, and would simply see him as a wretched sinner whose soul I pray Rosaries and receive holy Communion for.
I found him as a spirit-person and friend to be quite a new creation, a butterfly, but then I read a book by his wife and realized he was a good person despite his faults even as a caterpillar.
This thread is a collection of everything I underlined in that book. I'm going back and re-reading everything.
This will be a long thread that will not end for quite some time.
Regarding the mustard gas, I don't sleep well at night knowing it is killing children and I sanction it. When losing sleep over it, i remind myself of what Genghis Kahn said about a Warlord saves lives in an enemy city when he does whatever he can to frighten the city into surrendering without a fight.
The great Kahn wiped out 10% of the world's population to unite warring tribes, outlaw torture, create better health-care, roads, postal services, religious freedom, harmony between Christians, Muslims, Jews, and Pagans. He put an end to jihads, crusades, burning heretics at the stake, stoning adulterers, religious laws calling for amputation of limbs for theft, and much other madness of the times..I think of how after his death there was 100 years of peace and harmony for an Empire that covered 40% of the world. These were places plagued with incessant violence and many diverse ethnicities and Religions for the first time existing in harmony. Thank you great Kahn, for that makes me sleepy like a newborn.

Mussolini put troops on the border with Austria which temporarily halted Hitler's invasion. Then Hitler responded with a threat if Italy intervened.
After the fall of France and Great Britain's military in shambles, Hitler knew the British were defeated, but like Napoleon knew he couldn't cross the English channel.
We must do all we can to avoid war, but I have seen German military might. Italy will be invaded and sacked. If you think I'm going to side with the French and English weaklings, you're mistaken. They should have reacted when I had my troops on Austria's border.
--Benito Mussolini to his wife Rachele
No one but my husband's incessant calls, letters, and work with Attolico got Hitler to postpone his invasion of Czechoslovakia. God will not bless my book if I am dishonest, so I'm embarrassed to say how long it was postponed, but my husband was the only being on the face of the Earth to postpone it nonetheless.
--Rachele Mussolini
I'll not whitewash him. I often loathed his behavior, like when he returned home drunk and broke the china, dishes, mirror, everything, while we were poor and barely getting by. He threatened to kill me... My husband didn't ask me to Marry him, he told me. When my mother objected he pulled a gun on her. He refused to
listen to my warnings about how he should not look up to Napoleon as a hero, and that a family man is superior to a Caesar.
I begged in vain for him to stop returning home bloody from his fencing and sword duelling hobbies. My blood boiled when he would bring his mistresses to our home or to read some of
the thousands of married women writing
or the fantasies young girls had of the Duce. I warned Clara she would get killed if she didn't leave my husband alone. After reading her Diary, I knew that was not my husband she was talking about, and feel no sorrow for her.
The Duce told her I was his only love, and she resented this. She knew her Diary would be read and published, so she decided to write falsehoods, like she was some martyr in the hands of a monster. The world will take her Diary as being factual and reject the words of his widow who knew him since he was seven.
--Rachele Mussolini
I was Benito's 007 agent refusing to be seen in public with him so I could spy on the King, the Generals, and the "Fascists" my husband trusted. Many of these people wanted my husband out of power after 20 years of the Duce who was not showing the same strength mentally or physically, and when I told my husband about people who wanted him gone, he said he didn't have the evidence to prosecute.
I can give a list of political opponents who my husband let walk to provide for their families.
My husband had a great fault. He was too kind. My children used to joke that there would be a coup to put me into power. I would actually been a Dictator and punished some of these people.
--Rachele Mussolini
Our men did poorly in Greece because my husband didn't like the fact that we were attacking Greece, and right off the bat he saw one of our planes crash. He told me, "I'm a firm believer that what starts off bad will end bad. We will some day pay dearly for siding with someone who lays waste to devoutly Catholic countries like Poland".
The Germans fighting communists were known to say things like, "Greece must have been powerful to have you Italians earn the reputation for surrendering and retreating without firing a shot." The Italians who remained in German ranks after september 8, 1943 were asked why. They responded, "we want to kill communists".
Rachel Mussolini
Nazis stopped making fun of the dark Italians who weren't part of Hitler's master race. They wrote "the men fighting the Partisans aren't what the press says. They fight magnificent in combat, will jump on a grenade to save their comrades, and treat dying in battle like it's being martyred for the Pope."
Rachel Mussolini
Italian soldiers were famous for complaining bitterly that unlike Protestant Germany, Fascists "feel guilty killing people with Rosaries, scapulars, and priests on the field giving dead "enemies" final Viaticum".
Both Pope's during Hitler's reign did not approve of Hitler. These Soviets on the other hand are Devils. We had reason to fight Ethiopia. We fought to protect Italian settlers in Libya. We volunteered in Spain because the Pope supported Franco by calling his regime "a crusade against the spread of Communism". We had no reason to fight in Greece.
Rachel Mussolini
The foreign press commented freely about Italian soldiers tearing out people's teeth, using prisoners as target practice, burning people alive, women taken as sex slaves, treating enemy diseases and wounds with hot metal, and kicking dirt and sand into the wounds of prisoners. I can't say for sure, but what I can say is that I repeatedly heard my husband tell troops to avoid being cruel to enemies and he would lament to me about how the Germans treated innocent people who are simply defending their homelands.
Rachel Mussolini
Italians weren't innocent, and my husband should not have agreed to the request of officers to secure a more quick victory against Ethiopian forces by the use of mustard gas. I told my husband war should be fought with swords, bayonets, or guns, and that gas, which resembles ghosts and phantoms choking to death entire regiments, is the way a coward fights. The Duce responded, "my men arent interested in being heroes. They know it's a cowardly way to fight. They are more concerned about getting those boys home alive".
Rachel Mussolini
They want vengeance against the Solomonic dynasty for their Russian and French backed Empire sending 15,000 Italians home in body bags in 1895,and held accountable for the killings in 1934. My men don't want to go home dead as heroes, but rather fight like this, insisting I use unfair methods that cause the enemies to give up without meeting them on the battlefield."
Rachel Mussolini
The French and British complain that I use mustard gas as if they don't have a plank in their own eye. Mustard gas attacks were the very methods that the civilized French and British used against the Germans in World War 1 and they used it more than I do against a less hateful and cruel enemy. The way the Ethiopians enslave and treat their own people is worse than what I'm doing.
Benito Mussolini
What if the Solomonic dynasty could drop mustard gas from the sky on our cities. They would love to see every Roman Catholic choke on mustard gas.
Benito Mussolini
"I don't like doing this. Gandhi showed up half-naked with a goat and left the biggest impression on me who has always admired simplicity and poverty of spirit. I haven't had a visitor so worthy of admiration. That Indian Nationalist conquers his country peacefully with a bloodless transfer of power , defeating the British Empire with nonviolence. Reminds me of my peaceful conquest of Rome and dismantling Democracy. Now I have broken my reputation of being like Gandhi and doing so without bloodshed.
--Benito Mussolini
He spoke so highly of me. I shudder to think of what he might think now. We look like bullies. I prefer to see us as slave-abolitionists.
Benito Mussolini
On the other hand, the mustard gas probably is saving enemy lives because it's getting them to surrender. If they were inflicting casualties on us, it motivates them to fight. When they simply see that all Italians have to do is drop liquid from the skies, they lose enough morale to give up.
Benito Mussolini
We have had entire armies surrender because someone had a sore throat and another had a blister, and pretty soon everyone blamed their affliction on mustard gas and came flocking like a spastic herd of spooked Buffalo to surrender and receive Italian medical care. So certain were they of gas attacks they displayed all sorts of symptoms and hysteria. It never came near them. This isn't warfare anymore. There are no longer heroes.
--Benito Mussolini
The enemy soldiers are flocking to my men with their hands up to surrender and even prostrating and kissing the boots of their captors. These are armies of an Empire strong as a European military on the field. They defeated Italy in war recently in our nation's history and they did so quickly.
The French and Russians who armed this violent, brutal, dishonest Empire that boasts of being Jewish have no clue. they shoot anyone who wants to enter and get a peak to verify their proud boast of having the Ark of the old covenant. If I really wanted to be disrespectful, I'd satisfy my curiosity by telling my men to use military force on the location where the Ark is kept. But I remember how many people were killed by the Ark in Scripture, and would rather not risk that. I also believe we should respect items Christians hold as sacred, and Ethiopians treat that Ark as their most sacred pride and joy. Every Church seems to have some replica of it.
