As long as it serves sex, drugs and rock 'n roll, it's kosher.
Personally, I suspect the monkeys are happier than us, and infinitely less damaging to the ecosystem.
Given mass extinctions, pollution, the levels of despair and violence, and the inexplicable hubris attendant to this Great Achievement, I am inclined to think we are hypnotised by flashing lights and moving pictures, and would be much better off without technology. You can't make a good enough argument for it to justify human and planetary degradation.
