I think you mean this, copied below:, the Apostles were filled with the power of the Holy Ghost. I suppose so that people could tell the True Apostles from the False Apostles. But you don't see that kind of power anymore, perhaps it died out with them once the scriptures had been established. Maybe also as a sign to the other Apostles on who's teachings to accept. Paul did the snake miracle. and healing.

Humans die and begin their ascension through many universe levels and eventually they get to heaven.
How do you explain that to humans who lived 2,000 years ago who were terrified of thunder and lightning?
The quote means those who begin the ascension to heaven and believe in what they are told about God and the universe shall not be harmed or even afraid of the things that primitive humans used to be afraid of such as demons, snakes, or poison. Once they ascend to heaven they will be given powers that the universe has to obey, so, they could, as Jesus did, heal people who are sick. They will speak in new tongues means they will learn the universal language.
Jesus was trying to describe how glorious things are in heaven to primitive humans who were very afraid of nature.
He was saying that dangerous things such as what you mentioned, would happen. One such incident is recorded as happening to Paul when he was shipwrecked. He wasn't saying to deliberately drink poison and pick up venomous snakes as part of a church service like the crazies in the Appalachian mountain churches.
Earliest manuscripts of Mark's gospel do not contain the words at Mark 16:9-20. They are an unauthorized addition to God's word, IMO, and Jesus never said these words.

It means to me that nothing can harm your true inner Being, even if your carnal self dies, of course it didn't mean to actually drink poison and play around with poison snakes, that would be stupid.
