When I tell people I listen to heavy metal music, they act as if I offended them and they act angry. My question is, what kind of reactions do you receive, when people learn you listen to heavy metal music?

I've never had someone be *angry* at telling them my musical tastes. If they don't listen to it or like, maybe some good natured ribbing, or just a look of "eew".

Why is heavy metal music a taboo or something?

    It’s not Heaven’s music: rap.

Yes. And in Greece, most people reject heavy metal music as being satanic or awful etc.

A lot of people listen to rap music. People seem to be ok with rap. But heavy metal music? They find out you like HMM and they kill you with their look of their eyes.

Mild surprise. It's generally not something that comes up early in establishing relationships (unlike when I was young, when music was often a key early point of discussion) so they have pretty firm ideas about what sort of person I am by the time they work out I listen to metal (and to be clear, it's not my main genre).

I frequently debate with one of my coworkers why heavy metal is better than country music. He just doesn't get it

Indifference. I don't listen to heavy metal music often, so I have almost no occasion to bother telling anyone that I do. But I find that really no one cares what music I listen to. Especially since I am not particularized to a specific genre.

I am, however, a 65 year old Billie Eilish fan. Some people do find that somewhat surprising. But I immediately cease any and all contact with those people. :)

I love Korn! The old Korn, before Korn III album. Path of Totality (their techno-album) was lit also.

    Wbu?

Ah nice! I've seen them once live, they performed really well, they really love their fans :)

If you like (or want) Tinnitus, you'll love Heavy Metal.

But of course, listening to any genre too loud might do the same, even if I do get the impression that loudness is a main factor for Heavy Metal concerts. Led Zeppelin in the early 1970s was probably my only encounter - but at a relatively small venue and they were loud.

I do like Korn! Mostly of their first 5-6 albums; I kinda stopped seeking new stuff after awhile.
