Sure.
Putin has praised Trump, Orban and Salvini because they are the only ones who realize neo-liberism has gone too far.
It is like an uncontrolled and destructive nuclear fission.

He wasn't talking about neo-liberalism, he specifically targeted the values of liberalism such a multiculturalism, which call "no longer tenable" and protecting the rights of minorities like LGBT. He targeted the transgender community in his remarks "We have no problem with LGBT persons... but some things do appear excessive to us. They claim now that children can play five or six gender roles,"

Good topic, my thoughts from the CNBC article.

Liberals “cannot simply dictate anything to anyone just like they have been attempting to do over the recent decades,” Putin said, as world leaders gathered in Osaka, Japan for a two-day G-20 summit.
I agree! It needs to be a dialogue with compromise. This goes both ways, of course, we need moderates in the discussion, too!

In an interview with the Financial Times published Friday, the Russian president said liberalism has now come “into conflict” with what people around the world want.
Okay, but which people? Based on what data? When you make comments like this we need something behind it to support it.

“The liberal idea presupposes that nothing needs to be done. That migrants can kill, plunder and rape with impunity because their rights as migrants have to be protected,” Putin told the newspaper.
An extreme case but it has merit. We need to make sure we don't assume that everyone who comes out way is a good person. It really is a complicated issue and I have no trouble believing that nefarious individuals would take advantage of the situation.

Putin's agenda is to sow discord in the west, always has been. Liberalism has a long fighht on its hands, but the time of right wing populist personality leaders won't last long...

Multiculturalism is an ambiguous word.
And I guess it shouldn't be used in the Old Continent whose history is founded upon the nation states.

It is Putin's opinion that liberalism is on it's way out and should be cosign to the trash bin of history...do you agree?

Well the 'End of History' idea of liberalism whereby the forces fo history propel everyone to eventually adopt secular, humanistic, globalist identities certainly is. It was a conceit of people who assumed that the rest of the world desired to emulate them and adopt their values: a secular belief in holding the One True Faith

Liberalism was largely an offshoot of Western European Christianity (especially Protestantism) so with the decline of Western hegemony it's clear the dominance of this worldview is likely to decline.

He is targeting social liberal values such as acceptance of LGBT

Are you referring to free market capitalism?

Putin is irrelevant. Russia's economy is in trouble and is now about the size of Spain's. He has enemies at home so he attacks LGBT etc because it is popular in Russia to do so as well as sowing international discord

In the USA we have historically broken up cartels, but since the 80's we haven't been 'Taking care of business' like we used to. We're in a period of time where large monopolies once again manipulate the economy. I can't believe, for instance, that Amazon was permitted to purchase ABE books. That's just terrible. They swallowed their competition, and the gov did nothing. The regulators did nothing. What are they even for if they do nothing? Yes I agree that free market capitalism has grown out of check. The term neoliberalism confuses me when I hear it, because liberalism, here, has strong connotations of socialism.

Forgive me...there is a problem of language misunderstanding.:)

In Italian liberism is Adam Smith's doctrine theorized ( and neo-liberism is the post-WW2 version of it).
The opposite of liberism is socialism.

Liberalism is another word in Italian and has a pretty different meaning.

Putin be damned.

The guy has no political views worth discussing. He is a murderous gangster, running a corrupt ruling system for the benefit of himself and his cronies. The idea that he has any genuine political insights, or that one can take anything he says as sincere, is laughable.

Putin is a case-study in Applied Cynicism.

I like what the EU president said regrading Putin's comments in the first article:

But EU President Donald Tusk lashed out at Mr Putin on Friday, telling reporters he "strongly [disagreed]" with his sentiments on liberalism.

"Whoever claims that liberal democracy is obsolete also claims that freedoms are obsolete, that the rule of law is obsolete and that human rights are obsolete," said Mr Tusk.

"What I find really obsolete are authoritarianism, personality cults, the rule of oligarchs, even if sometimes they may seem effective," he added.
