Put 14" Apes on My Roadking

Ever debated about putting apes on your motorcycle? I did for years
what ifs you may have:
What if I don't like them then I am out money (that is all I could think of at the moment) I mean installing extra long brake and clutch cables, wiring, etc. (cut your wires at different points so when you solder them they don't bundle up in the same spot in the handlebar tube)

When I was done and started riding it I thought to myself "why didn't I do this years ago?", HD forums members will tell the same story. My back loves me for it (I'm over 60, about 6 foot and shrinking) I can sit up straight and twist my back on long runs. Do it now, you will not regret it.

They just look strange when I see them.

It's not about your looks, it's about the comfort and control of the person riding the motorcycle and that is why we spend thousands of dollars to protect our lives (hopefully) This is why you see "loud pipes save lives" bumper stickers, in the electric world there is llittle sound

I understand. I was wondering about them just recently. Your post answered some questions for me. I wondered how comfortable they were. Apparently more than I would have guessed.

the best way is to put your bike up on a jack, close your eyes and put your hands up in a comfortable position slightly below your shoulders (blood drainage equals numbness) typically a 6 foot individual will take 14's a 6'4 " will take 16s but you can adjust on the road as needed. Make sure you add a single instead of a double on your triple tree, could save your life about $18 life insurance

Ape hangers? I was a little confused when I first opened this but I'm assuming handlebars now.

Yes it is handlebars, very comfortable, I recommend them on cruisers on the long haul

Lost my sense of balance because of an ear problem so had to give up motorbikes. Tried a trike for a while but it got too bad even for it.

Harder to handle a bike with high bars, and some find their hands going numb.
On a long road trip on a regular bike I had my throttle hand fall asleep. It was the second day of riding. From DC to Minneapolis. I had just gotten back into Minnesota and all of a sudden my bike died. It did not shut off, but it was slowing down. It turned out that I had released the throttle and could not feel it. I palmed the throttle until I found a place to pull over and eat a piece of pie.

Lol! When I first saw the title, I thought it was just going to be another thread about evolution (the theory, not the engine).

That's what I thought. Monkeys can't ride motorbikes therefore evolution is proved wrong.
