The U.S. 2020 election is right around the corner so we should all be aware of the subtle and not so subtle Mindwar being unleashed at this very moment by the Russians upon voters to sway the election and undermine our democracy. This subtle persuasion is achieved in a variety of ways but it is not to be confused with domestic bots/trolls etc. that is just political advertising.
How to spot a Russian Troll:
-Anyone who endorses Donald Trump is either a Russian troll or someone who is wittingly or unwittingly under the spell of the evil sorcerer Russians (THEM) or just too dumb to vote for the favoured democratic candidate.
-Candidate endorsed may or may not be republican but it will be one that endorses typically more rightish political views. If a democrat it is one who is not in lock step with the popular party line and shouldn't be voted for anyway.
-Screen names and avatars might give a clue as to the politics behind the mask, avatars may be American flags of different varieties (the Bennington one is popular as it dog whistles to deep seated patriotism)
Screen names may include:
-Johnny America
-Susan Bee Antony
-NotaRussian
One must also be careful, sometimes these trolls and bots are very clever and act like regular posters sharing pictures of their dogs, cat's, or kids at some point maybe even engaging in discussions about popular movies and television in an attempt to humanize themselves and blend in.
Memes and posting may be for and against republican and democratic candidates, they do this to confuse everyone!
Above all, it is a fair bet that any meme, post, joke etc. that is critical of a favoured democrat
is probably the work of a Russian! be wary, refuse the eye candy
Do not share or repeat the Russian disinformation no matter how true or comical you think it is
it is worse than the flu, ebola, and AIDS combined!
