PSALM 83:18 , just the earth and not the universe?

The God listed in Psalm 83:18 shows that the bible is not for the big letter "g" God, but it's for the regional little letter "g" God because the scripture says "the whole earth" and not "the whole universe".

How do you know that earth in that statement doesn’t just mean the dirt on the ground? You’ve already read into that statement that that word “earth” means the planet and not the dirt. No verse within the Bible can be understood as a stand alone statement. And as your showing in other posts, Bible interpretation is a science to some, an art for others. (note: not all Christians are Sola Scriptura)

I’d also add that the truth of any verse is in what is says…not in what it doesn’t say (so you can’t read more into the line than what is there or you’ll end up contradicting some other verse in the Bible…sometimes even the next sentence…language is a crazy and wonderful invention, I often think life is just some mind/language game we play with eachother).

So back to your earth/universe question, If I said “Bush is the President for NY and PA”, isn’t that true? Does that statement imply he is not the President for the 48 other states? (only if you read more into the statement than what is there).

That's just silly.

Hi T3gah,

Hellloooo? At the time that Psalms was written, the Earth was the center of the universe, at least to the people that lived on it. This actually makes a lot of sense because in a way it really didn't matter what may be happening somewhere else in our galaxy or the KNOWN universe. What was and is important is what was happening on Earth at the time and what is happening now.

Beware, picking hairs may get you fleas.
