I'm proud of the Iranian people bravely standing up to tyranny. People can take only so much before it hits a boiling point.
The Iranian people in general don't like the Ulama (religious clerics) who are in charge any more. They used to look up to them. They won't last in power forever, but it is really hard to know when that will happen, with the government being repressive for now. Maybe there will an equivalent of Gorbachev as the head some day. Gorbachev did not want communism to end in the Soviet Union, but he thought if he loosened the reins communism would survive. Khamenei is old, and may not have much longer to live as the supreme leader. He's 84 years old now.
Ali Khamenei - Wikipedia
Critics have accused Khamenei of overseeing the assassination of as many as 160 exiled defectors worldwide, the heavy-handed repression of protesters, the killings of tens of thousands of members of the M.E.K. (
People's Mujahedin of Iran) paramilitary group, and of making dissident writers and intellectuals in Iran "a special target" of repression, among other infractions of human rights....
On 9 September 2014, Khamenei underwent
prostate surgery in what his doctors described in state news media as a "routine operation".
[297][298] According to a report by
Le Figaro, Western intelligence sources said Khamenei has
prostate cancer.
[299][300]
In September 2022, it was reported that Khamenei had undergone surgery for
bowel obstruction and had to cancel a number of meetings.
Oddly in this Wikipedia article he is quoted as saying the greatest novel ever written was Les Miserables by Victor Hugo.
