!protect The Holy City Of Mecca!

I read in the paper that due to the tragic stampede in Mecca, the Saudi government plans to re-construct the area around the pillars that represent the devil (part of the hajj ritual). This is an outrage! The Holy City of Mecca must not be tampered with in any way and I call on all Muslims and followers of God to protest this travesty. If we allow this to pass then all holy lands will be at risk; before you know it they'll be knocking down buildings in Jerusalem in order to build new roads. Protect Mecca, protect the holy lands of the world! We must do all in our power to see that this never happens not only to Muslim places of worship but to those of our Jewish & Christian brothers and those of our Sihk cousins. Take a stand, protect your land!

Muhhamad Abdul Salam,

The Holy City of Mecca must not be tampered with in any way
But, what about all the people who died recently in the stampede, who died in stampedes in the past, and who will die in the future unless changes are made? Are stone pillars more important than human lives?

The stampede took place in Mina, not Makkah, which is around 20 km from Makkah.

Mina is only populated 1 week each year when the pilgrims are there.

Why do you think that redesigning the place where there are too many crowds to save human lives is a problem?

Holy places have been fought over
destroyed
bombed
rebuilt
erased
since man first made monuments.

If changes need to be made it should be done with due respect,
and not entirely change the nature of the place.

Gods greatest creation is the Heavens and the Earth and the life it contains.
These are also also the holiest things in the Universe.

Why should it be OK to kill, and destroy the world God made,
But not to alter a Holy place.

Respect for Gods entire creation should be our prime concern, not man made constructions how ever significant.

Hi brother Muhamed,

Do you know that the collapse of Mecca in Allah's eyes is much easier and better than seeing one of his slaves "We" being killed or died?

We must save lives brother Muhammed and brother Cordoba already explained for you that it's far from Mecca.

Peace ... :)

Why not allow hajj more often than once a year? It's no wonder you get unmanagable crowds with the whole world flocking to the city during a single week only once a year.

hajj can be held only in specific days on the year according to the law of Islam. :)

I thought I read that the walkways were recently widened to protect against such a stampede anyway?

It was altered not long ago wasn`t it?

The problem is not only because of the walkway but because of some unorganized people from some countries.

There were changes made before. Changes can be made to beautify and protect the holy site and make sure that unnecessary deaths do not occur.

Perhaps the biggest change that might be effective would be to educate the pilgrims about their own safety at the beginning of the Haj.

For the Baha`i Pilgrimage it is still possible to control the flow of believers so that the shrines can be entered, not just circumambulated, of course, the Baha`i Pilgrimage is about nine months and the believers are scheduled for nine day blocs. The terraces leading up to the Shrine of the Bab was recently complleted in conjunction with the city of Haifa to alleviate the pressure of many people visiting at once. The "Persian Gardens" which constitute the the Arc of buildings including the Shrine of the Bab are a regular visiting site for everyone in the region. Most wedding pictures in Haifa are taken in the Gardens whether Muslim, Jewish or Christian.

How many pilgrims will be there to control?

I guess you can't compare few hundreds or even thousand of Baha'i pilgrims with 1000,1000+ Muslim pilgrims.

Right now, I believe there are about 100-120,000 pilgrimage slots (each nine days long) a year, and one must schedule those pilgrimages five to six years ahead of time. There will come a time, of course, when that kind of flow will be nowhere near sufficient. There will come a time when it will only be possible to circumambulate shrines, I am sure.

The Muslim Haj is much larger and only for one month of the year (I think) which places the pilgrims somewhat at risk for events that occured this last time. The actual number of pilgrims is not limited at this time, though it might come to that (scheduling a Haj years in advance).

Scott

Prophet Mohammed said: "alhajj Arafa" which means no body can consider his hajj complete without wetinessing this day.

You make a good point but you forget that if one dies during the hajj, they go to heaven. I appologize for mistaking Medina for Mecca.

That depends on what has to be knocked down to make room for it. But as long as no one elses holy spots are harmed in the process then I support the temple's rebuilding.

The Temple will encompass the entire mount
so i guess thats a no go on Judaism's most holy site ever being restored

got it.

Let's just hope Heaven's Gates are wide enough so that when the torrent of souls arrive from the latest stampede the tragedy won't repeat itself. :sarcastic

Maybe the Dome of the Rock could be incorporated with the Temple. The Temple could be built with a court yard that encircles the Mountain.
no disrespect intended but...

that would be like me asking you if i can build a Shul next to the kaba in mecca (i think that's how it's spelled:eek: )
