I'd say I was told but it made no sense, so I used my God given logic to reject it.

    let's then consider.....the Source

I might not have authored the parable
but I go around quoting it

later.....the angelic say to me.....YOU knew better
and I shall receive the consequence for my performance
    THEN.....they ask

    Did you tell anyone else?

I honestly don't understand your OP. Proselytizing would be "God is real; he speaks for everyone including you... verse XYZ" Quote is more "God is real. The bible says he is. Verse XYZ."

One is directed to the person assuming the quoted verse has some affect on the other persons choice to follow christ. The latter is educational and a means to support one's statement not use it to convince others the validity of it.

I was a sensitive kid with an overly strict father, so I used to fear Final Judgement a lot. Then I grew up and learned that in actual trials, the power of the judge is to be balanced by good lawyers, and that quite often, bad guy defendants win. Then I read the parts of the Bible only "real Christians" read, Isajah and Jeremiah. I felt the god depicted therein was portrayed as a brute with anger issues and low self-control. If I was his wife, like Israel/the church is considered to be, then I would leave him on the spot.

Question - I've seen a few episodes "Thomas and Friends", featuring Thomas the Train, that seemed to be implying some moral oughts or ought-nots. Is this the kind of thing we're talking about? Did Jesus honestly expect episodes of Thomas & Friends to be the "bait" in his "fishers of men" ploy? Is that what you're saying?

"I shall make you fishers of men"
It only makes sense if you look at the verse in context.

    Matthew 4 KJV

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

Fishers of men in that context means fishing for men to bring the gospel message to.

I can restate what I think that Thief meant, but there is not guarantee I will be accurately representing what he meant.

Apparently all these years have gone by and no one has noticed that Jesus the Carpenter said to His disciples.....I shall make you fishers of men...

This is a story with a moral implication.....

Since so many years have gone by since Jesus said that, we can no longer plead ignorance, meaning we can no longer claim that we have not heard what Jesus said...

So when we get to heaven we cannot stand before God and say Jesus did not tell us.

And as taught and believed by most Christians Christianity makes no sense to me either....
But that does not mean that we cannot make sense of the New Testament.
