How is this proof of anything but the fact that water doesn't run uphill?

Sees come and seas go. There are no "everlasting barriers." Continents drift, merge, break apart, creating new land-water configurations.
I currently live hundreds of Km from any sea, but millions of years ago this region was at the bottom of a sea. Where was the everlasting barrier?
