In a visit to Xinjiang in China, where Uyghurs are subjected to genocide, a delegation from the World Muslim Communities Council gave a positive report on the treatment of Uyghurs, leading to backlash from Uyghurs worldwide:

Values tend to come a strong 2nd to self-interest and side taking. Unfortunately, its not unique to groups like this and is something most are guilty of.

Bad oppression of Muslims: Done by the West, Israel or India
Acceptable oppression of Muslims: Done by Muslims, China, Russia

It's not caring for Muslims, it's hating the enemy that matters.

Shaking your fists at the enemies buys enough leeway to get your cheques (or other benefits) from the others. Political theatre works.

Sad thing is, for somewhere like Israel/Palestine too many external actors benefitted from perpetuating the situation when a solution was possible, even if they backed out now it might not be possible.

Sad thing for the Uygurs is no one really cares as it is too inconvenient to do so. Countries want their investment, companies want their cheap manufacturing, people want their iPhones. Boycotting Russian goods is pretty easy, there is no cheap virtue signal for China.

Civil wars are not freedom. Freedom includes freedom of speech (not controlled by a horde of government censors), freedom of movement, religions where the priests are not approved by the government, lack of official suppression of people based on religion and so forth.

China is going to get a tremendous amount of more bad press, not because they treat certain groups as badly as we do, but because the powers that be in Washington and its NATO lackies want to bait China into invading Taiwan. In the meantime demonizing China will be the norm, and that does not bode well for anyone.

It is not quite the same. China conquered those lands and forced the people into their country. It is not as if there was a democratic vote to join China.
