Prayer tips and ideas

Do you have any tips or ideas about prayer?

If so, please share :)

I have two

First:

When constructing a prayer remember ACTS

A = Adoration
C = Confession
T= Thanksgiving
S = Supplication

These are all the elements that a comprehensive prayer should include

You can also add an additional "S" for Submission

I use this both in my own private prayer and when I write prayers to offer in public

Second:

When putting you hands together, each thumb/finger stands for a different group of people who you should remember in your prayers

Thumb (closest to you) = the people who are closest to you
Index Finger (that which points) = teachers and spiritual leaders
Middle (longest) Finger = government
Ring finger = weak and downtrodden
Little finger = yourself (last but not least)

Lord's prayer "after this manner"... an outline - not a "say it this way".

Our Father who art in Heaven

Recognizing relationship....

Hallowed by thy name

A time for worship... upward. Recognize who He is as revealed through His OT names with thanksgiving
  1. Pastor
  2. Peace
  3. Healer
  4. Righteousness
  5. Victor
  6. Sanctifies
  7. All sufficient one
  8. etc
Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven

Pray for others. Pray God's will over other people and situations

Give this day our daily bread

Pray for your personal needs, family

Forgive our trespasses even as we forgiven those who trespass against

Forgive - and ask forgiveness

For thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory

Finish with more praise giving God all the glory

Prayer, to me, is dialogue or silent meditation. I'd say

A-Adoration
C-Contemplation
T-Thanksgiving
S-Service

I like the A and T part but it sounds more like worship. Worship isn't part of my prayers. Some ideas? Well, as someone who isn't christian, I just go with what my heart (I guess) tells me to do. Though, it does say how to pray in scripture. That and you can be creative in your ACTS. I personally don't feel there are rules to prayer.

Supplication has no effect. It affirms the negatives. The Lord's Prayer affirms the positives. There is no supplication in the Lord's Prayer.
So prayer is a tranquilizer; a psychotherapeutic modality?
Most people view it as influencing events outside the prayer's own head.

Varying definitions of prayer in play here.
When I walk across the room, I don't supplicate (usually). I use the knowledge that I can, and do it. I call that prayer, since the power is God's. "Thy will be done in earth..."
(Just my feeling about what the Lord's Prayer says, and is for)
(I know, I know, pedant's alert, preposition at the end)
