Prayer, Duaa - reality, requirements, effects and aspects

Peace and mercy of Allah be on you....By the grace of Allah the Exalted, Jalsa Salana Qadian was convened from 29 to 31 December. Regarding it, a Friday sermon and an address to concluding session by Hazrat Khalifatul Messiah V (may Allah be his Helper) from UK was broadcasted via mta.tv. ... In Friday sermon, he (a. t.) asked members to pray for safety and to obtain the purpose of Jalsa...The purpose of coming to Jalsa Salana and attending its programs to pray to Allah the Exalted, to make effort to improvement in knowledge and practice, to strengthen connection with Allah the Exalted, to get benefit of spiritual surrounding, to pay special attention to prayers with special liking.

The prayers should not be limited to self but these should be for progress of Jama'at. The prayers should be to get special support and help of Allah the Exalted against plans of opponents of Jama'at, anywhere in the world; may Allah the Exalted save us from their evil... It is our duty to pray for the general condition of muslims as some groups and governments are doing oppression in the name of Allah and Messenger; there is mutual killing and destruction....Due to these oppressions, objections against Islam and Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) are raised in non-muslim world. It hurts hearts of Ahmadis... Jama'at of ardent devotee Promised Messiah (a.s.) of Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) should especially do these prayers.

Pray for the purpose, for which, Hazrat Promised Messiah (a.s.) was sent; guidance of muslims and to inform reality of Islam to non-muslims and to bring them under the flag of Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) by proving superiority of Islam.

Prayer should be done for general conditions of world, may Allah the Exalted give wisdom to all people and they are saved from falling in ditch of destruction. Today world has great need of prayers those who accepted Hazrat Promised Messiah (a.s.)....May everyone understand the reality that there is no salvation and survival without accepting the envoy, sent by Allah the Exalted. May they enter the new year understanding this thing.

Anyway, the subject of Dua (prayer, supplication) is such a subject, Hazrat Promised Messiah has mentioned in detail it at various gatherings and in many writings, and has drawn our attention for it; what is Dua / prayer, what state should be made for Dua, Dua is solution of all problems.

Basic and principle thing for acceptance of prayer: Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said :

Unless bosom is clean, prayer is not accepted. If, for a worldly matter too, there is malice in your bosom for any person, your Dua cannot be accepted. This matter should be remembered well and malice should never be kept with anyone in worldly matter. And what is worth of world and its means that you do animosity with someone for it.

So it is very important for the acceptance of prayer that all personal malice should be forgotten, and forgiveness should be beseeched from Allah the Exalted, and His help should be sought to keep heart clean for future...Today we should pray to God the Exalted being united, against the increased opposition by opponents of Ahmadiyya Jama'at. When person bows before Allah the Exalted with restlessness and being distressed asks from Him, then Allah the Exalted comes for His Help. This basic thing should always be remembered and never forgotten.

Hazrat Promised Messiah (a.s.) said: Some people are such that they hear something from one ear and expel it from other side, they do not let come these things in heart, no matter how much advice is given, there is no effect on them. Remember, God the Exalted is very much Independent, until prayer is done abundantly and repeatedly with emotional-agitation He does not care. Look, if someone’s wife or child is sick, or severe suffering comes to someone, then how they are emotionally agitated for those things, so until there is true throbbing in prayer and state of emotional agitation is developed, till then it is fully non-effective and nonsense act...For acceptance of prayer, emotional-agitation is condition (one condition is cleaning of heart other is emotional agitation) as Allah said, ‘ammain yojibul muztarra eza da’aho wa yakshefussu’ (i.e. Who is He Who accepts prayer of a restless, when he calls on Him and removes trouble.)

So, for prayers, emotional agitation is essential, and this confidence too must be there that it is the Being of Allah the Exalted Who Helps in each kind of pressing-necessity. He is, Who listens prayers and Helps His servants.....Pray in Salaats and Nawafil, bow to Allah the Exalted with restlessness so that Allah the Exalted bring goodness to the troubled situations of Ahmadis, wherever they are, and fail foe.

State of iztirar and reality of prayer.

Hazrat Promised Messiah (a.s.) said: Do not consider that prayer is name of verbal nonsense. Rather prayer is a kind of death, after which life is achieved, as there is a verse in Panjabi, ‘jo mangey so mar rahey – marey so mangan ja’ (i.e. the seeker seeks as if he is dead since he finishes his ego, self and being then seeks ...when person comes before Allah the Exalted, in such state, prayers are accepted). There is magnetic effect in prayer, it attracts faiz (abundance) and fazal (favour) toward itself.

Drawing attention to importance of prayer, and fazl of God, Hazrat Promised Messiah (a.s.) says:

We say who does lamentation and crying in the Presence of God the Exalted and sees limitation and commandments by Him with sight of grandeur, and corrects himself by fearing from His majesty, he will surely get share from favour of God. That is why our Jama'at should make compulsory, to offer Salaat of Tahajjud. Who cannot offer more, he should offer two rakkat because he will get opportunity to do prayer anyway. There is a special effect in the prayers of that time. There is a special effect of prayers of that time because they are emerged by true pain and excitement. Unless there is a special soz and pain in heart, till then how can a person wake up from peaceful sleep. So waking at that time creates a pain in heart, by which riqqat (softness, thinness) and state of iztirab (emotional agitation) is developed in prayer. These iztirab and iztirar (pressing necessity) becomes the reason of acceptance of prayer.

But if one acts with laziness and non-alertness in waking then it is obvious that, that pain and pathos is not present in the heart because sleep dispels sorrow.

But when one wakes from sleep then it is known that there is other pain and sorrow which is more than sleep which is awaking.

Then another thing is important too which our Jama'at should adopt, and that is it, that the tongue should be cleansed from useless talks. The tongue is entrance of a being (person). By cleaning tongue (language), God the Exalted as if comes in the entrance of being. When God comes in entrance, then what is strange about coming in!

Then remember, never ever, knowingly negligence should be done in rights of Allah and rights of people.

The one who will use prayers by keeping these matters in view. Or say, who will be given enable-ness of prayer, we are sure Allah the Exalted will do his favour to him and he will survive.

Apparent plans etc for cleanliness are not prohibited, rather [Farsi] “ber tawakkul zanuey ashter beh beband” (before tawakkal, it is essential to tie knee of camel), it should be practiced, as from “iyyak na’ bodo wa iyyaka nastaeen” is known.
But remember the true cleansing is the one, as said: “qad aflaha man zakkaha”
Every person should consider it his obligation that he will correct his state.

...That one can be hopeful of favour of God who does not break the continuity of prayer, repentance and Istighfar [seeking forgiveness, help and cover] and does not do sin knowingly.

Sin is a poison, which kills human, and intensifies wrath of God.

Only fear of God the Exalted and His love removes from sin.

Do not break continuity of pray and use repentance and Istighfar, that prayer is useful when heart melts before God, and no sanctuary is seen except God. The one who runs towards God, and seeks with pressing nessecity, he eventually survives.

What is real prayer, Hazrat Promised Messiah (a.s.) said : Prayer is of two types, one is, in common way. Second, is that prayer, which when human takes it to maximum; so this prayer is called prayer in real meanings...Human should keep praying even without falling in any trouble, because what does he know, that what are plans of God the Exalted and what is going to happen tomorrow. So pray in advance so that you are saved....Sometimes, calamity falls in such way, that human does not get respite for prayer, so if prayer is done earlier, it helps in this difficult time.

Beginning and end of Holy Quran is prayer, Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said :


Remember that, God the Exalted has started Holy Quran with prayer, and then has ended at prayer (surah al-fatiha and surah al-nas). It means human is so weak that he cannot be clean without favour of God. Until help and support from God the Exalted is not obtained, he cannot progress in virtue. It is mentioned in a Hadith, all are dead except whom God makes alive, and all are astray except wh om God gives guidance, and all are blind except whom God makes sighted....In short it is true thing that until favour of God is obtained, till then collar of love of world remain necklace of neck, and only they get release, to whom God do favour. But it should be remembered that faiz of God begins with prayer.

Regarding qualities of believers, Hazrat Promised Messiah (a.s.) said : In Holy Quran, it is clearly written that ‘qad aflahal momenun allazina hum fi salatehim khaseoon’ i.e. when heart of human melts by keep doing prayer, and falls at threshold of God with such sincerity and truth, that he gets lost only in Him, and by erasing all thoughts, he seeks faiz and help from Him, and such focus is obtained that a kind of riqqat (weeping due to surge of emotions) and softness is developed. Then door of falah (well-being, salvation) opens. From which, love for world cools because two loves cannot stay together at one place, as it is written ‘ham khuda khahi wa ham dunyaey doon een khiyal ast wa mohal asto janun’ (you want God and this low world it is only a thought it is impossible and craziness, both things cannot be done. But by desiring God, world too is obtained, by only desiring world God is not obtained)

Prayers are accepted by making desires subservient to the pleasure of Allah the Exalted, Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) tells about this point :

Get lost in Allah (metaphor), and by leaving all plans and desires of self, and only plans and commandants of Allah should be followed so that, be cause of mercy for self, for wife and children, family and relatives and for us too...Never ever give opportunity for objection to opponents, Allah the Exalted says ‘minhum zalemul lenafsehi wa minhum muqtasedun wa minhum sabequm bilkherat’ ( some of them are oppressor to their selves, some among them are moderate, among them some are those who move ahead in virtues )..First two qualities are lesser, one should become sabiq bilkherat (mover-ahead in virtues), to stop at one place is not any good quality. Look, stopped water eventually rots, due to nearness of mud it become smelly and bad-tasted. Running water is always good clean and tasty, even if mud is underneath but mud cannot make any effect on it. Same is state of human that stay should not be made at one place, this state is dangerous, step should always be kept ahead, progress should be made in virtue, otherwise God the Exalted does not help human, and like this human become light-less, the result of which sometimes become apostacy, so human become blind of heart.

For acceptance of prayers, it is essential that human should make progress daily in virtues, move ahead like running water. Hazrat Promised Messiah (on whom be peace) said : Help of God the Exalted accompanies those who always put step in virtue ahead........
