Those are the highlights defining a banana republic. Notice especially the last point of devalued currency and lack of development.

The term referred to US imperialism in Central America and parts of the Caribbean. We overthrew democratic governments, blockaded the coasts and pretty much owned Honduras and Guatemala. We operated vast plantations, employed legions of virtual serfs, and sent in the military periodically to maintain control.
That's what a banana republic is; a country virtually annexed, dominated and exploited by foreign corporations with military support.

Well perhaps not entirely. If the Trump campaign brings its claims to court promptly and they are promptly dealt with, then it will look like a robust First World democracy, in which legal challenges can be brought openly and justice can openly be seen to be done. In Putin's Russia, let alone Xi's China, such a thing would be unthinkable.

What will make the US look like a banana republic is if the claims are not brought until the very last possible moment, because the claimants are aware that they will lose in court and they use the intervening time to whip up baseless conspiracy theories that undermine the faith of the people in their own democracy. That, I think, is what is going on. And at least one person on this forum seems to be energetically taking part in that exercise.;)

I would say that that is indisputable.
As it does increasingly look like one.

I know, one can hardly keep up.

As well as a "banana republic", another not too stretched analogy might be a "satellite state" - formally independent in the world, but under heavy political influence from another country.

Yes, I'm not sure whether Trump is really under some form of Russian influence or whether he is just a home-grown would-be autocrat.

But he most certainly IS a would-be autocrat. Shamefully, he is being helped by the Republican party. So much for patriotism, eh?

Are you telling me James O'Keefe, a known professional liar who has been caught lying on record multiple times in the past, and whose job is literally manufacturing lies for political propaganda... lied? :fearscream:

"All better now" only if Biden morphs into a radical and manages to turn the country on it's head. If we don't change the conditions that generated the populist uprising we'll likely get another Trump -- maybe even a competent one.
"Back to normal" is not good enough.

It seems to me we're slipping slowly into third-world status.

    Things fall apart.

Yeah, I doubt there are any serious criminal charges that can be brought against him.
I suspect the investigators who claim that he recanted also will not face serious criminal lawsuit either.
The Oversight Committee will be embarrassed because of the obvious mess up.
And Project Veritas will remain unapologetic in their one-sided agenda to find corruption.
Somewhere in the midst of all that the case will be decided as to whether or not post office workers backdated mail.

This cited actual facts that brings this accusation to serious question. First fact is that no ballots are accepted after 8 PM on election day regardless of post mark.

The Source is Russia backed media, and of course the complaint is in a muffled recording.
