Portland store shuts down, posts blistering note on front door slamming rampant crime: 'city is in peril' (msn.com)

I suppose this is one of the consequences of increasing crime, as businesses are unable to sustain their losses. Apparently, insurance only covers so much, and the city can't do much either. The article also showed a picture of a homeless camp in Portland:

Though this scene is repeated in cities around the country, along with higher crime rates. If more people go out of business and more jobs are lost, then that'll be more people living in places like this, which will mean more crime.

Somehow, we have to find a way out of this cycle.

Starting at the bottom and working up is how to tackle it.

Fix the homeless and housing crisis, and the rest will follow.

Crime is almost always an act of desperation.

People in Portland created their own problems... now I bet they are leaving in droves.
Cutting the police force causes more crime? Who would have thought?

"Crime is a major focus for Oregon candidates looking to unseat incumbent power in the May primary, even as data shows little validity to the notion that overall crime is rising in the state."

Some Oregon midterm candidates focus on crime — even when the data disagrees

"There is scant evidence showing a correlation between police budgets and crime rates, but several Republicans running for governor hope it is still an issue that can help them dislodge the decadeslong Democratic hold of the seat."

Not in the manner people think and are attributing.

Really? The evidence shows otherwise, at least in Portland.

Still, crime is a symptom of a deeper problem. Maybe cutting the police force has an effect on the crime increase, but it seems that there's something wrong with a society where we have to rely more and more upon a heavily-armed, militarized police force to protect us from crime.

We also have one of the highest prison populations in the world, and yet, we still can't lock up all the criminals because they keep coming out of the woodwork.

This isn't just happening in Portland. The OP article is just one example of the same problem being repeated in cities across the country.

If what you're saying is true, then it's as much as saying that much of the citizenry has become so depraved and morally bankrupt which is only kept in check by a large police presence. People who are otherwise moral and law-abiding wouldn't just go "Oh look, no cops! Let's go do some crimes!"

His link did support his claims. Perhaps he should have quoted from it.

Of course, I thought 2020 already proved that to be the case with much of the citizenry.

Mine too. I am pushing for a hunting season on the homeless. But keep it under your hat. I am still working on keeping control over the proprietary rights. I am sure that Trump supporters would love the idea.

Cops usually don't prevent crime, instead they deal with the aftermath, and often not very well.

Let's just eliminate law enforcement then, we can go back to duels.

I didn't say eliminate law enforcement, but let's eliminate, corruption, misconduct, incompetence, and waste.

Funny... seems like the liberals goal is making cops more incompetent. But Joe is finally on board, probably because most Americans don't want less law enforcement.
As crimes rise, battles rage on about police funding
