Pornography

What is your stance on this?
I view it as degrading.

But for some people it can be good ( so i'm told ), as in a friend who only views it because he doesn't have the time to get a girlfriend ( Yes, it sounds stupid to me too ).

What do you think?

If this is deemed in anyway offensive then delete.

I suppose it depends on the person. For me I find it arousing, but I also wonder why we make it. I have lived with a couple of women who enjoyed watching it with me (one of them owned more than I did). They seem to get the same titillation from it that men do, once they relax and just enjoy it.

I have no real problem with pornography unless it's child pornography or violent pornography. In my experience, most porn is tasteless, but that's perhaps a minor quibble.

I have a friend who very much enjoys taking amateur pornographic photos of himself... there are definately some people that get a kick out of it and enjoy doing so. I think most of it's funny looking, but whatever floats your boat.

Most of it is truly terrible!

I don't see anything wrong with pornography as long as it was made by consenting, legal actors.

I'm fence sitting on the issue of extremely violent pornography and digitally created pornography neither violate the above conditions but seem wrong to me. I'm not a big fan of the emotional judging though, hence the fence sitting.

I think that enough of a link between violence and media depictions of violence has been established for us to be wary of violent porn. But that's just my impression gathered from a casual reading of the reports on the link between violence and media depictions of violence that have been reported in the popular press. I really haven't studied it any further than that. Does anyone know more about this subject?

And may I ask, what makes pornography, pornography?
Pornography : Sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal.

I can agree with Sunstones definition. Call it erotic or pornography, it still serves the same purpose: potato, patato.

My stance is that I enjoy some of the many things that are labeled porn. I don't find it degrading or immoral but I have run across some things that make me doubt the intelligence of my fellow human beings and other stuff that brought out the urge to puke.

My rule of thumb is: porn is / contains / portrays material featuring / describing / picturing freely fully informed consenting adults /adult groups; with just about everything else falling into the back hole of illegalness as outside of porn.

Yea, Safe, Sane and Consensual.

I think it's really innapropriate, demeaning, and immoral.
Who defines what is immoral? Morality is subjective and has no place in determining whether or not something should be done.

I'm all for it as long as it's safe, sane, consensual, and really, really, hot. :D Seems like a valid business to me.

Porn as we see it was certainly around in Jesus day.
and most definately in roman house holds, for all to see.
It is strange that it seems that the early church did not condem it.
Perhaps like the romans they saw it as normal.

Porn can be real addictive though. It will seem harmless at first, but it becomes an unsatisfying urge. Then you break down and do the $1.99 two day pass to see more. Then the $29.99 month pass. Then your buying a new 250 gig hard drive for more download room. Then you realize that every girl/guy you date is never good enough and you end great relationships for a younger better looking person. Then it repeats over and over, You can't escape...

But of course some people can smoke a cigarette with out getting addicted. But it's a gamble to try...
