Pornography: Women Exploiting Women?

It's My Birthday!
The matter was brought to my attention in idle conversation that there are 111 female pornographic film directors. Category:Female directors of pornographic films - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Now there exist only 195 pornographic film directors in the United States. Considering the volume of pornography that comes from the United States, one can assume that the majority of female directors are in the United States, as are the majority of all pornographic directors. The feminist line is that pornography exploits women. If so, at least in 1/4 of those cases, isn't it a woman exploiting her fellow(sister?) woman?

So it would appear. However, I, for one, don't buy into the idea that porn exploits women.

There are different arguments from within feminism.

One of them, and my understanding is one of them that is particularly second wave, is that porn exploits women. (It was the original feminist position on my understanding)

I understand some third wave dont believe this, including one that spent a year as a sex worker and still does not oppose sex work.

Porn is about men exploiting women. Porn made by women is about men exploiting brainwashed women to exploit women.

The important thing to remember here is that men are bad, m-kay.

And I find it curious no one says porn exploits men.

Very curious.

Obviously all men are sex crazed maniacs. So porn can't possibly exploit them because they are driven by uncontrollable instinct to have sex all the time. Can't exploit something for what's in their nature to do. :sarcastic

ex·ploit (ksploit, k-sploit).
tr.v. (k-sploit, ksploit) ex·ploit·ed, ex·ploit·ing, ex·ploits
1. To employ to the greatest possible advantage: exploit one's talents.
2. To make use of selfishly or unethically: a country that exploited peasant labor. See Synonyms at manipulate.
3. To advertise; promote.

So, which of the three definitions above are you thinking of?

Porn doesn't exploit women. People exploit women.
I agree.
In any case, I was merely responding to nyRednek's comment, "The feminist line is that pornography exploits women."

Perhaps we could solve that problem with an experiment.

Remove women from the porn industry and see how popular it becomes. Then vice-versa.

Not all feminists think this.

Also, is the list for 111 female porn film directors all American? Or global? I saw non-American women on the list of 111.

If so, how many pornographic film directors are there worldwide?

Finally, back to the generalization, I reiterate not all feminists are anti-porn. Many feminists that identify as sex-positive do not believe what you convey.

I dont see how on Earth could that solve anything.

If something is very popular it is explotation?

I am just not following the line of reasoning.

I know women are paid higher than men, I dont remember how much or if they more or less got similar pay if the man decided to do gay porn (I know it is better paid)

I did point that out :D

By the way, which names would come to your mind about feminist authors or activists that are pro sex work and not against porn(in itself) ?

I know there was one who became a sex worker for a year, I think in Brittain. At suck with names though.

In this case, I think that a large part of the definition of exploitation is that women choose to participate in pornography because they have little other choice. Only because of porn's popularity is this an issue -- if no one bought it, then it there would be no motivation for anyone to exploit.

There are several reasons why porn doesn't exploit men -- one is because the body shape that looks good on camera // or is on high demand in porn -- is not as common as the body shapes of women that are desirable. But really, economics are the only factor here. If people bought more porn that featured men, there would be more of a market that exploited them.

The first that comes to mind for me is Nina Hartley. I read her blog from time to time, and the woman is still going strong after decades in the porn industry.

Giving someone an option is not explotation O.O

As I understand, what is looked for in male actors is that they can ejaculate a lot and on que. of course, I am far from an expert on the subject.

Are you confused about which definition of the word "exploit" is used in reference to the porn industry?

I agree.

How could you possibly agree with him if you don't know how he is using the word "exploit"?
