The porn industry is a reflection of who we are as a society. I say clean up the industry by ensuring safe sex is practiced by all actors and actresses, leave paper trails for documentation to help decrease the risk and prevalence of trafficked girls and boys, and perhaps educating all actors and actresses on their rights by allowing them the opportunity to unionize, as well as giving them better health care options post-production.

It's a start, but I think the greater change can happen on a societal level where we look at porn through the voyeuristic lens of a more egalitarian sexual fantasy and where BDSM is explicitly consented.

Seeing more amateur porn becoming popular, and more porn production companies owned and operated by women, I see some hope for the future.

What is your response to the fact that the risks are higher for women and the work far more physically damaging? And the fact that the actresses in porn (unlike any other job) actually have to be women, and there are fewer women than men willing to do the work?

Pornographers are paying everyone the absolute minimum they can get away with. If men are willing to do it for next to nothing, that's what they'll be paid.

I didn't say that. I just said that if women who like having their faces come on exist, I have not met them. In contrast, most straight women do like some combination of coitus, cunnilingus, fellatio, toys, anal play, light bondage, and / or mutual masturbation. We talk about these things.

Yes, prostitution in general is a consequence of economic coercion. Also, according to an interview with a porn star (and other sources) virtually all women in porn are adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. They're messed up, basically, and porn perpetuates the cycle of sexual exploitation that they have experienced since childhood.

There are exceptions to the rule, of course, like genuine amateur couples and porn created by and for women, but the majority of available porn is women who were messed up by childhood abuse being sexually exploited on camera because they can't think of any other way to make a decent living.
