It seems that they missed the point that you're supposed to at least try to stop sinning, not to be proud of it and open sinners, and then have the audicity to pretend like you have any business being a spiritual shepard. Big miss from me.

My response to this breaks the rules so I won't post it.

Suffice it to say, no, this is not good.

We need to bring back sexual taboos, not let it all out.

    No we don't.

Sexual taboos only create guilt and shame. Which is absolutely detrimental to all involved.

I left Christianity to get away from the BS backwards repressed nonsense.

What people do in the privacy of their own homes is their own business.

What does “bringing back sexual taboos” entail?

I'm not talking about their bedrooms, I'm talking about in public. We don't need all the sex stuff in our faces.

It means that we shouldn't empower people to be porn stars (as in the article) or claim it's the same as any other lifestyle. To religious folks like me that's degrading people, it's degrading to the spirit, it's degrading to the job role she's in as it goes against the core principles in her own religion.

It means sex and sexual behaviours stay private. So no sex parades, no public petting, no people walking around in fetishy or overly revealing clothing in public; no teaching that it's alright to sleep around or behave in an overly sexual manner in public or to suggest having sex before marriage is normal and good practice.

Basically the usual things associated with traditionalist beliefs.

Just put it all back in the bedroom where it belongs.

From my POV the Western societies are very oversexed.

Well, some things seem alright; like not overtly performing sexual acts where children could see them.

But who defines overly revealing? When I have barre I’ll wear yoga pants/leggings to school, is this bad?

We obviously disagree about going into porn or sex work, I may not have to bring up those disagreements other than to state disagreement.

I think taboos on sex (getting to the part of “no sleeping around” etc.) are harmful. I think people can choose to be abstinent if they want, but it would be harmful to shame and judge people that do not wish to do so.

My instant thought when I read that is "the Taliban believe that as well". My second thought was "ban nude beaches?". My third thought was "African culture not seeing anything wrong with showing breasts". So on this point, it's clearly cultural and religious what is considered "overly revealing".

Then I started ruminating about all the sex scandals with the Catholic church and some Protestant ministers. I don't see any value in hypocrisy either.

I also think that admitting that we're all "sinners" is fine and very possibly helpful since we're not perfect and make mistakes.

But they seem to have, in the words of the song, gone "one toke over the line".

So do Orthodox Jews and many other religious groups, such as Mormons, Witnesses, Catholics, and lots of others.

It's not an issue if everyone is nude because there's no sexualisation to that in this case. Nude beaches are also opt-in; they're not the norm and one won't see them unless one goes.

Yes, it is cultural, but most if not all cultures have some form of decency standards. Those same African cultures likely still use menstrual huts and I doubt most Western folks are defending those.

There's nothing wrong with it being cultural - everything is-, but when one believes it (literally) religiously, it takes on even more meaning.

I don't see what this has to do with anything because your next sentence admits as much - that people sin...

...but this is no excuse to encourage more sin. The idea is you sin, then you repent and try not to do that sin again.

I don't see a problem with the porn industry in general. Just because it's taboo doesn't mean it's wrong.

I do fall in line with keeping christianity traditional (generalizing) or it would be so divided christians wouldn't find a place to "go to" anymore. If that means seeing porn industry as a bad thing, so be. As long as it's a moral issue and not influencing societal laws and individuals to do what's in their best interest and not the other's.

I can see how a pastor can be a porn actor and pastor insofar he or she sees his job as a job. Though, christian theology doesn't support it. It would be uncomfortable if I were christian to attend that type of church but I guess to each her own.

Only if your looking for it. You should see Japan. There are open breasts on display in shop* windows and newspapers. It's all about ones personal perspective on what is or is not oversexed.

I'm not looking for it. I see it because my worldview dictates that this is unseemly behaviour. I can't help seeing this anymore than you can help seeing a 20 year old grooming a 12 year old as perversion and detestable. It's just how I characterise it. So your example is like me telling you, Well in X country, men sleeping with 12 year old girls is normal, just because we think it's perverted, that's just what you're seeing.

I mean, it's in our nature and histories.

    Is this "oversexed" ?

I stopped after the first sentence, because you hit the nail on the head, "it's YOUR worldview", not everyone else's.

    That's perspective. And Culture.

It was pretty good for me, as it helped me realize the full depth of my gender dysphoria and how my life can only be a disaster trying to be who I'm not.
And it's not too unusual people learn things about themselves from having sex, somethings that are good to know before marriage.
I picked up a passenger once, and literally the very first thing I saw of her was a frontal view of her exposed panties because the front of her skirt was basically non existent. Even to me she was pretty trashy.

    You should read the rest.

Also, yeah, it's my worldview. I'm not seeing the problem. Everyone has one and everyone will argue in accordance with it and yes I think my worldview is the better one, otherwise I wouldn't hold it.

Sexual taboos aren't working out so well in Iran, Saudi Arabia, or Yemen. What we get instead of healthy sexuality in those places is repression, undercover practice of all kinds of illegal and immoral acts (such as pedophilia and marital rape), and widespread misogynistic attitudes.

A big pass from me. In my opinion, sexual taboos need to die and be replaced with prioritizing informed consent and elimination of any harmful practices--and not just when it comes to sex.
